Walked into one of my favorite gun shops here in Montana and 'bout keeled over frickin' dead". Sitting on the used gun rack where 6 or 7 1899s and an 1895. I walked out with the following. Pictures to follow in a day or so when I get a little time.

#1) 1895 with serial # 364x - 26" octagon barrel with original sights. Pretty good shape with most of the blueing gone but metal and wood in good shape. Someone likely did a little sanding on the butt stock many, many years ago but overall not bad. Bore good and everything works as designed. Has 2016 mule deer and antelope hunt written all over it. I'm absolutely dumb founded that this was sitting on the rack and I won't tell you what I'd paid for it because I committed actual "highway robbery".

#2) 1899 B in .303 with serial # 23.3xx - Excellent condition with almost all blueing remaining and most of the case color is left on the lever. Bore excellent and has original sights. A major upgrade from my old "meat-in-the-pot" .303 B.

#3) Model F .303 Saddle Ring Carbine serial # 1276xx. Very good condition with most of the bluing intact and excellent bore. Some case color left. Saddle ring missing. Front blade and rear buckhorn sight are marked D.W. King.

And as a bonus -

#4) Savage Model 19 .22 Hornet Target Model serial # 2065xx - Very good condition with heavy barrel and target stock. Bore good. An old Busnell Banner 6X scope was mounted on what looks like old Redfield bases. I haven't researched the serial # as to D.O.M. and if the gun came from the factory drilled and tapped, probably not. Anyone have any ideas?

Holy Smokes, that IS a GREAT day at the gun shop!! Ok, we won't coerce you to spill the beans on 1895 price, and there's no need to brag about what a good deal you discovered...how about just giving us the total for all four rifles and letting us speculate. wink

Never had a day like that, wouldn't know how to handle it. Why did you leave the other three? GW

The 19 would have been set up with Weaver side mount if it was drilled at the factory or by an independent gunsmith. I passed on one a few months back and have been kicking myself in the arss ever since. Nice haul!

Left a couple run of the mill Gs that had been messed with, another saddle ring gun that had been re-blued, a real nice 1899 B in 25-35 that somebody else had put on hold. The 25-35 had holes drilled in the top of the wrist for a flip up tang sight but otherwise was very nice with good blue and case color. There was also a .300-.410 cased set but the .410 barrel would not screw into battery all the way and align to get the forend back on. I'm assuming the .410 barrel is wrong to the set. Any ideas?

There is not a lot of info written on the Model 19's. From what I have pieced together the 19 Target Hornet is designed like the 19 Target in .22LR but serialed as part of the Model 23 centerfires.

The .22 Hornet was added to the 23's around the middle of 1932. The first were D&T'd with two rear mounting for the Savage #10 peep sight. This was changed to three holes around 1935 for the #15 sight. I have 205,0xx with two holes. Please advise of the number of holes in your rifle.

The 19 Targets were D&T'd for mounting blocks use with a long target scope, two holes on the barrel and two of the holes for the rear peep sight. I think most were also D&T'd on the left side for the Weaver S or T side mount.

Given that these rifles were Serialed with the 23 centerfires it is hard to tell how many were made. I don't it was many.

FYI - my 19-33 is serialed at 490XX and is drilled for the #10 sight. Do you know what the year of manufacture would be. And my apologies to the OP for getting OT on his thread.

I would date it around the end of 1934.
