Would a Nosler 140 gr Ballistic tip be adequate, or would a 140 gr Accubond be obviously better in performance?

Many thanks

Can't see why not, put one into the lungs and it will be fine. I have only shot deer so far with the 140 gr Ballistic Tip but have done a bullet test with it too, it will work fine at 6.5x55 speeds. The Accubond will hold on to it's core better but the Ballistic Tip will work.

I have killed one bull elk and a bunch of deer and hogs with accubonds and have a lot of confidence in them. I also really like the Hornady 120 grain gmx,it would be just about ideal in my opinion.

I would happily use a 130 AB, or 140 if my rifle liked it, but avoid directing at heavy bone. A 140 partition is a great all around bullet for the Swede. IME the round dotes on 140s.

A Mono works great, but keep in mind the lighter weight slugs, at longer distances sizzle out faster...yet within their optimum impact velocity range, they have few peers.

I've taken my 6.5x55 on an elk hunt but didn't end up connecting with one, so I can't say with any authority what will work best. But if I were to do it again my top two bullet choices would be 140g Partition and 120g Barnes TTSX.

Of the two you list, I'd lean toward the 140g Accubond. I prefer a stout bullet for elk and I think the Accubond would have the edge.

What do the Swedes use for moose? Might want to check into that.

I think I saw a post of the fire about someone using 160grn round nose @ approx 2500 fps.

Maybe a Norma Oryx or Alaska in 156grn.

Might want to look at them

I would practice with the Ballistic Tip and hunt with the Accubond. Usually you can work up to the same load for both or come close enough.

The Swede works well with a number of bullets due to being heavy for caliber plus moderate velocities.

I would likely do the same.

I wouldn't be scared to use the 140 Ballistic Tip. My thoughts on "premium" bullets are rapidly changing...excluding the Partition.

I prefer the 140 gr Partition but last year used a 142 gr. LRaccubond & it worked just like it should have. No complaints.

One very good source of information is Nosler. Call them, ask to talk with a technician, ask what he thinks. Over many years I have found them experienced and knowledgeable.

A personal experience with the Nos BT. I had three shots on whitetail bucks. The 120 the Nos BT entered each behind the front shoulder and completely came apart inside. Dead deer after a short run. Very effective but no exit hole. I have since done some more shooting with them (120 Nos BT)and in the 6.5 at 3000fps muzzle velosity they come apart. I'd hope the 140 would be tougher. My son shoots 140 Nos BT from a .284 with great results. Partition, TTSX, Accubond would be, in my opinion, better choices.

A Nosler 140gr Ballistic Tip may be adequate but adequacy does not necessarily constitute better or best.

Best to you and I hope you have a great and successful hunt.

Jim

I think that it would be hard to top a 140 grain Partition for game bigger or tougher than deer in any non-magnum .264" bore cartridge, from 6.5 Creedmoor thru 6.5-06.

Use the bullet the Swede was designed for and has killed countless Moose (known as Elk there). 160 gr cup and core softpoint. The best one made here is the Hornady 160 RN SP which expands 2 calibers and penetrates forever.

This speed goat was shot in the left front shoulder (broke it) went end to end and exited busting the right hip.

It also shoots 5 in 1" @100 in my Mauser built 96 Swede/Danish sniper in spite of the coarse reticle on the 6X Schmidt.

Lapua make arguably the best heavy 6.5 bullets

Either the 140gr Naturalis or the 155gr Mega, both will double in size, retain almost 100% bullet weight and penetrate like nobodies business.

Ive used em on donkes, horse and 100kg hogs and ttheyve performed as expected everytime

Bad penny that can't be passed? More like turd that can't be flushed.

laugh

My 6.5x55 Mauser 98/Shilen really likes the 155 Mega.

May need to try it on WT's and hogs.

Larry,

Apparently you haven't used the 160 Hornady much. I have, and while it will SOMETIMES penetrate well, sometimes it doesn't. Have seen it break both shoulders of a deer and exit, and not reach the far ribs on a broadside, behind-the-shoulder shot. Phil Shoemaker had similar experiences with them.

Apparently you're also running out of imagination for new Campfire aliases. 1000is? Really?
