The shoe rest is not a bad idea on the trap / skeet field. It keeps you from making everyone nervous when they can see the gun broken open with no shells in it, and your not waving it around. What I think is a bad idea often found on the trap range is shotguns with release triggers. I've seen a lot of accidental discharges with them when the shooter forgets or finger slips. (Including me)

My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost....

Great talking points but NONE OF US FOLLOW THESE "RULES" because it's impossible. A gun is always pointed at something. The guns in my safe are pointed at my safe and also at my cieling, I don't want to destroy my safe or my ceiling! My safe is in the basement below my bedroom, sometimes I go down and look at my guns when my girlfriend is sleeping, I don't want to destroy her! Some people are just overly picky.

You do not take care to not point firearms at your girlfriend?!?

She's sleeping upstairs and I pull my gun out of my safe the muzzle is pointed at the ceiling which is the floor of the bedroom so the gun is pointed at her through the floor. Heck it's pointed at me when I'm sleeping also!

The other reason for these shoe pads is to rest your arm between shooting so you shoot better. What is the other standard way of carrying your break open shotgun on the range? Broken over your shoulder so it's always pointed either where you're looking or 180 from where you're looking?
