Was reading about them on another thread. Got to wondering, so thought I'd ask the brain trust here: do the '08 Limited Editions carry any premium? TIA

Probably no more than an '09 in similar condition with good wood. I bought mine on closeout in 2011 because the dealer couldn't move it. I suspect it was because of the chintzy gold writing on the magazine floor plate. When Cabela's had a special run made a couple of years ago, they ended up lowering the price, probably for the same reason.

The gold looks particularly bad when it starts to buff off from use.

They were very nicely made rifles that functioned perfectly and were very accurate.

If I needed a rifle badly enough I'd buy one but not sure I'd pay a premium for it.

They were some of the best that came out of the FN/BACO plant. They wanted to bring out the best model 70 we've seen. Too bad they went with a browning type box trigger and now they build them in Portugal. Long live the pre 64 model 70. The real rifleman's rifle as far as I'm concerned...

There's nothing at all wrong with the original trigger design other than the tedious job of adjusting it, but the new MOA trigger is actually pretty nice too. I've used Ernie the Gunsmith springs in a couple of them and they responded very nicely. I do like a pre-64, though.

RiverRider. The Ernie's spring is the only way to go. I've dropped the pull weight down to 2 3/8 pounds by just changing out the spring and adjusting it down. I hate to sound like I'm biotchig about the MOA trigger, because I actually like the design. I've shot my MOA triggered rifles side by side with my pre 64's (multiple rifles on the same day) and actually feel the MOA is smoother and breaks cleaner than the old tried and true trigger. This is because the MOA has a mechanical advantage where the pre 64 trigger doesn't. You'll often hear me say, "why replace the MOA with another box trigger?", when someone says they replaced the POS MOA with a Timney. That's truly a sideways move that gains you absolutely nothing. They just replace it because they hear guys biotching about the MOA, so they think they are doing the right thing by spending $120.00. Now does that mean I don't like Timney triggers???? HELL NO!!! I just put one (cost me $58.00) in a M1917 rifle and love it. There's a time to replace a trigger and a time not to. The MOA is one of those times when you just change the spring and rock on. Southtexas, the 2008 should bring a premium because they have a minimum of grade III stocks on them. I really liked the wood on mine. I remember seeing it from across the room at a local gunshow and almost ran over to check it out. I'm glad I snagged it for a pretty reasonable amount and was damn happy about it. The rifle worked flawlessly and was extremely accurate. Like I've said before, the first year FN's were very good. They were building them to impress us. Most of us thought the model 70 was dead and not going to be made anymore, but they brought the rifle back and was supposed to be better than ever:

For a few people maybe, but not that much of a deal breaker for most I would suspect as they did sell out. If you see one now for sale they generally go fairly fast and for a somewhat close to retail price if new. Ones that lingered on the rack were plain jane's as far as wood.

I have several of the Cabelas Ltd. Super Grade Editions and the ones I was able to pick up have stocks that are for lack of a better word, are just incredible. They too are early FN built and assembled in South Carolina and are very nice rifles.

I posted a dandy NIB 2008 Featherweight in .270 in the classified ads a while back if interested. Reduced price at the bottom....and open to a reasonable offer.

That's TWO gorgeous Featherweights, in one thread. Personally, I don't care for the Featherweight's schnabel, but when the wood is that nice it becomes a nonissue for me.
