(just an anecdote) Took this on a family walk, hitting houses etc at various distances along the way. Got to the waterfront, bridge in the distance, thought what the heck...

3 out of 10 tries it ranged the bridge, at 2976 yards.

They have kind of upset the fruit basket for range finders. I really like mine.

Not entirely impressed with mine so far. The furthest I can read on reflective mirror-windowed high-rise buildings is 1140 meters. I've hit trees at 1350 meters, but I have yet to be able to range anything even close to 2000. I'll keep trying and testing a bit more before sending it in, but things aren't looking great so far. My Bushnell Fusion beat it hands down.

You must have a lemon because my Kilo 2000 is far better than the Bushnell Fusions and I have gotten ranges to 3000 yards

You may have already checked this Jordan, but clean the sensor lens. My buddy was having trouble with his Leica and I noticed a huge fingerprint smudge on the sensor. Lens cloth cleaned it off and his LRF was working again.

I have a Leica 1200 it's nice. Not as nice as S-K 2000. Now I have two ERF. I'll use the two side by each, for a while. No hurry on my part.

Stopped on the way home and started ranging a few things. Farthest things I could see to range was a small cedar tree at 1802 yards and a cow at 1764 yards. Im liking it so far.

Just picked one up and impressed. Love the small size & lightning fast response. Debating whether to sell my 8 x 30 Swarovski RF; cannot really afford to keep two of them. Love the Swaro, especially for the good glass in (8) power and me functioning with one eye!!!

update....My replacement came today. It's as big of POFS as the first one. Can't range a windmill tail at 900 from a tripod. My Leica will get hits handheld, elbows on a table. The tail is 18-20 inches tall and over 4 foot long. Way bigger than my 700 yd gong..... I'm glad most guys are getting good ones, but what's the chances of me getting 2 bad junkers in a row?

WTH Don,

Did they move or change manufacturing? I bought one early on and it works like a charm. They keep that up and they're going to tube their reputation quickly.

That sucks dude...I bought mine last April with no issues so far. I can't quite seem to get to 2500+ consistently with hilltops and such like some do, but out to 1800-2000 yards mine will range anything and everything.

I held off on buying one for the season, because too many people were having problems with them. Hopefully, they've got it under control now, and they'll all be good!

In the meantime I'm just going to have to make do with my Leica. It won't range that far, but then again, I don't have the erectors to get that far anyway! smile

I'm ready to buy one. My Leupold won't range an elk in an open field at 350 yards.

Cabelas is $499 but I'm sure there are better prices out there. Any suggestions?

Farthest I've ranged on an antelope is 974 yards with mine.
If I see any elk today I will try to range them and get back to you.

I paid 420 shipped to my door. Bought from a guy on Snipers Hide. I can provide his contact number if need be.

That's why I chimed in Bob, antelope are the hardest animal I've ever tried to range. Their small size definately make it more difficult to range especially at long distances.

You and me both. Ranging lone antelope on flat ground, with little cover is a tough challenge. I know my Leica 1200 and Swaro couldn't, and Leupy 1200i does about half the time.

Mine was used yesterday to range a 200-250# black bear in a clearcut at 1348yds. Also ranged a little black tail doe at 1117yds.

On a metal fire watch tower on a open rock face I have got it to range at 3180yds IIRC

I think mine sh*t the bed. Couldn't range antelope (or anything else) at ~400 yards today....

Ugh. Don't like hearing that.

I ranged a cow (moo cow) at 1236 this evening with my Leica LRF1200. I think that's a new personal record. However, that was in fading light. In bright sunlight it's a 600-900 tops rangefinder. How does the Sig do in that regard?

Jeff, we have gotten ranges to a bit past 1500yds in fairly sunny conditions on single cow elk. It's a good one indeed.

I got mine a long time ago for $450 and thought that was a good deal at the time. This is a great price.

since I only have vision in one eye, my rangefinder takes the place oF binos and I don't need to range critters in the next zip code. Two questions: How does the optical quality compare to the Swaro 8x30 rf, and does the sig have a rain mode? The Swaro is impossible through intervening brush or trees,

It says it is a closeout sale. Wonder what is up with that?

I don't see that. I'm viewing the link on an iPad, if that makes a difference.

Sig did come out with the 2400, so maybe the 2000 is being discontinued. Just a guess.

I was looking at the email SWFA sent out about the sale

I think mine just took the same sh*t. Worked fine out to 800-1000 yards yesterday. Today it wouldn't range anything over 300 yards unless I found something under 200, and it wouldn't give me any readings past 400 yards.

Sux when it happens when you're out hunting. Luckily my antelope was only 300 yards out... this thing is going back to Sig and I'm going back to my Leica LRF1200.

For what it's worth, here's a thread on the Sig 2400. Reports of the SIGs crapping out is concerning.

I don't think any of these rangefinders, no matter who makes them, have real stellar reliability records do they? I've heard a lot of complaints about some of the Leica ones too and they are much more expensive. Hopefully SIG will be standing behind their products. So far I haven't had any issues with mine, knock on wood.

Yup, there have been LOTS of reports of Leicas crapping out over the years. At least Sig has a 5-year electronics warranty and lifetime on the optics, with decent service IME so far.

Having said that, my Bushnell Fusion has been used hard and has taken it's share of tumbles without missing a beat, so that's what I take hunting (beside the fact that I don't have to carry separate bino and RF, which is why I bought it in the first place), and the Sig is a range toy for now. The Fusion will hit trees out to 1700m every time, and deer and cattle out to 1200-1500m, and even 1700m some of the time depending on lighting, so if the Sig craps out on me it won't be a big deal. Once it proves its longevity it may start to come hunting...

I just got my second Sig Kilo from SWFA and it's a dud compared to my original one. I'm gonna send it off with the hopes it'll come back better than the old one.

Well, my well used one has been killer and WAY better than anything I've used. Kicks ass on my Geovids. Seeing others post readings out to unbelievable distances along with a $350 price tag made me pull the trigger on another. I figured I'd lean on the warranty if it didn't pan out, and that's where I'm at.

4 months will suck but I've ordered McMillans with their GFY attitude before, so I'm prepared. At least a little anyway.

I think the ramp-up from initial hit product to making a bunch more got mishandled somehow, and the 2nd batch or whatever has QC issues.

It's keeping me from buying one! I was all set 6 months ago.

I'm not really blaming; I'm sure that it's a difficult process and fraught with peril. Just hypothesizing as to the why of it. They were ADORED by the early adopters but now have seemingly major QC issues.

Interesting. Ordered one Saturday, showed up today. $349. Haven't monkeyed with it yet. Vortex showed up yesterday and didn't even open the box. $289

Wonder what the puke record is on the Vortex?

My Swarovski is still runnin great. Great optics too. The 1 time it puked they sent me a loaner overnight, fixed mine, then sent the loaner back. Hauled it around 3 states. Schitty customer service.....

The Sig runs circles around the two Swaro RF's I've used, but maybe they are better/smaller/faster/cheaper now.

The tiny size, scan mode and angle comp is a potent combo.

Well that sucks.

My 1600B performance drops off quick once the battery droops. Most noticeably in bright sun. With a new battery it'll range trees to 1600+ yards and reflective objects like cars to 2000 yards.

This is just speculation, but I think the alignment of the source and receiver are trickier to execute than we may realize.

I had a Swaro that was reliable to 2000+ yards on just about any object, under any condition other than fog. Others, with the same make/model reported less and sometimes much less performance. Same design and components, but I think they differed in their alignment or calibration.

My first 1600B flat out sucked. It struggled to range trees at 1000 yards. I asked Leica for a replacement, and that replacement to be tested by a human outdoors. The replacement 1600B can't compete with a 'good' Kilo but overall does great for me and nearly as well as the Swaro while being smaller, lighter, and giving temp, pressure, and angle of the dangle.

I recall some posts at other forums where several Leica dealers were personally testing Leicas and selling the 'good' ones and sending the others back.

And for the record, Swaro customer service was great. The Swaro LRF leaked, but they got me a loaner and refurbed mine.

All that to say, there seems to be a bunch of Kilos out there that rock out to 3000 yards. Just need to figure out how to get a 'good' one. Hopefully the former Leupold employees get Sig's customer service on track.

Sig Kilo 2000 VS Vortex Ranger 1000....

Raining cats and dogs, plenty of fog. Anything under 1,000 yards either missed a beat. Buildings, trees, whatever. Found a field of cows, furthest was 631. Neither had a problem. Coupla small does at 256. Furthest building I could get the Sig to range was 1,407. Vortex was 1,040. Used the batteries that came with them.

Scan mode on the Sig is a lot faster than the Vortex. Found a row of school buses parked diagonally and rattled across them from 602 to 640'ish and they kinda jumped in 2 yard increments. Same with the Vortex, just had to move a little slower. 6x on the Vortex and 7x on the Sig. Makes it seem like you can hold the Vortex steadier. Sig give a little more detail. Clarity was about the same.

Like the eye cup, side clip, and threaded tripod hole on the Vortex.

Dunno, both seem fine in my book. Reckon it's a matter of which one you want be a fan of or if you feel the need for something with more than a 1,000 yard capability. Vortex has a better warranty.

Sig = $362 at my door from SWFA
Vortex = $289 at my door from Camerland. Actually from eBay and shipped direct from Vortex.

It is what it is....
