I'm assuming your in the eastern half of the country and shooting numerous shots per outing won't be the norm. If that's the case, and having coyotes on the list, 22-250.

I don't see the advantage to the 20's that others have claimed. To me the 30-40gr. bullet weights don't allow for any better spotting of my own shots than the .223. But I have only spent time behind one type of .204.
IME the .17 Remington puts coyotes and 'chucks in the dirt and allows me to see 100% of my shots.
Of the two asked about I'd take the 22-250 and run.
Clark This is also a correct answer. If you can't see your hits with a 223 you won't see them with a 204. I have no experience with a 17 so no comments there. drover

This is a tough one. I have both and on big chucks the 22-250 w/55gr. PSP out of a 12 twist hits hard. PA woodchuck hunting doesn't demand hot and heavy shooting. In my case, the 22-250 is a med. sporter weight walking varminter (Cooper M54 Jackson Game). Comparing this to my 26" heavy barreled Cooper M21 in 204. is apples to oranges. The 22-250 fouls out much faster, but I'm shooting a 32gr. moly coated VMAX in the 204. For shooting pdogs or in any other high volume scenario, the 22-250 wouldn't be in my top 5. In a walking PA woodchuck rifle, the 22-250 is a great choice.

Just shoot p-dogs with my 2 204's.
I can see at least 90% of my hits and misses.
There is no way I would shoot a 22-250 for p-dogs.
yotes a different story, I've only shot 1 with my 204 396 yds and he ran 10 yds and died.
Used to havw a 22-250 truck and calling rifle worked very well

It would have been a 50 pager before you even pulled your wallet out...

I purchased it used in the early 90's. I have no idea what year it was manufactured.

Thanks guys i just picked up a remington 700 varmint sf 220swift Stock up on brass whenever you can find it. My only Swift is a Savage 99 that Wilbur Hauck rebarreled in the 1950s. A cool eastern walking varmint rifle that hasn't been out of the house for over 20 years.

Is your rifle going to be a uni-tasker?
A .22-250 is so much more versatile. I would not hesitate to use one on small whitetails and other critters.
Not sure that I would trust a .204 on anything other than varmints.
And if you're a speed freak. I'm using 45 grn hollow points and getting close to 4200 fps out a a Savage Model 10 with a 26" barrel.
So, another .22-250 vote.
