I just saw this on the old gunbroker, and thought someone might like to know. http://www.gunbroker.com/item/560392313

Nice piece, did the 338's come from the factory with a pad?

I believe so, but I'm sure someone will chime with a definitive answer

It appears to be an all original rifle except for the front sight and it's missing the rear sight and front hood. The thing that would kill the deal for me is the crack in the stock at the tang. I'm still curious to see how much it sells for though. I sold one like this to EricM here that was in better condition. I'd treat this one as if it were a barreled action. It might surprise us to see how much it sells for. My best guess is about $1,400.00. But then again, it entirely depends on who is watching it...
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Mine had a crack in the tang when I got it. I was altogether too happy to give 1200 for it. I did bed it and ran it for a year with the split in the tang. Still shot relatively well. Shoots better in the McMillan though.

Well, the reserve price was not reached and it didn't sell. High bid was only $1,100.00.....

I have one that is in a lot better shape that I would part with for $1500. 466K serial range. All original sights and all.

.338 Magnum rifles were equipped with solid red Winchester pads from the factory. Near the end of production they had switched to vent pads with white line. IIRC some were marked Pachmyer and some Winchester.

I have a 338 classic. It's close to new condition. But I put a limb saver on it. Since I have two 338's and a 375 plus others in the same category. If someone wants I could send pictures. The stock is pretty but it is dark. PM me with a E-mail address and I'll send photos.
I prefer classic. Semper Fi I used to run with the hare. Now I'm envious of the tortoise and I do my own stunts but rarely intentionally
