Saw an article that said there were more ducks this year
than any year since 1952 when the survey started.

Do you boys up north in the Dakotas and on into the pothole country in Canada agree?? Are you seeing lots of birds and nests?

Didn't they do that survey because Duck numbers had been falling for years?

They survey the numbers every year...I haven't seen the latest but I know the last few years have shown an upward trend for most species.

I'm seeing lots of babies now from baseball size to basketball. But thanks to all Minnesota farmers tilling every field and cutting down every tree as soon as our pheasant and waterfowl get flying feathers they go to South Dakota.

Out here in the Northwest (Oregon/Washington) we've had about an average water year preceded by 3 dry ones. Our nesting bird numbers are down.

Duck and goose nesting numbers are good in the south part of Oregon. Valley falls area looked good yesterday. Drews valley, Sprague, Sycan, Williamson marsh areas are all wet, green and full of birds. Center Pivots where all pumping and everything was green yesterday. Looked like a good local hatch was going to happen.

The birds in ND got a very early start on nesting with some hot dry weather in March.

There are goslings that appear half-grown already.

Plenty of ducks around, but there always are anyway.

There is very little water in comparison to most years. I think that we may be entering a prairie dry cycle if it does not change very soon. That would dry up even more of the potholes and then nowhere for ducks to go.
