A few thoughts -

I'm reading that Ford has changed the oil spec for the 2016 6.2L gas engine to 5w-30 weight oil. You might want to check that out and consider your options depending on if you live in a warmer or colder region of the country.

I'm not a big on Fram filters. My choice would be to stick to a Ford filter or use a Mobil 1 oil filter. Mobil 1 oil filters are made by Champion Labs are are very high quality. If you want the best filtration possible, check out Fleetguard filters, but you'll pay a lot for one filter. You can find Mobil 1 and Fleetguard filters on Amazon.

As for oil, I think Mobil 1 is good oil, but I think Schaeffer Oil is even better. You most likely won't find Schaeffer oil locally but if you order $350 worth they'll ship it to you for free. I have 220,000 miles on my 7.3 diesel Excursion and I've been using Schaeffer oil since 30,000 miles. To date my engine is all original and I'm looking for 300,000 miles or more out of it and I run it year 'round in Minnesota, which means temperatures from 90 to -15 degrees.

Schaeffer Oil

Hope this helps.

It obviously won't change your mind, but the Fram Ultra gets rave reviews on BITOG.

The only thing going that worries me in my 2013 6.7L is the oil gets dirty very fast. I have run it to 7500 miles a couple of times, and it doesn't use any oil, but it is really black. Currently have 88,000 with no problems, but I usually change oil at 5000.

A guy I work with has an 2002 7.3L with over 200,000. He uses Rotella triple and it stays fairly clean. He changes every 5000.

I'd run M1 extended performance and a Fram ultra filter for 15,000 miles. I wouldn't lose a minutes sleep.

They're a very well built filter. I'm currently running them on 3 different rigs.

Stay with the Motorcraft synthetic blend 5-w20.

I have the same motor and tried running Amsoil 5-w20. It was too "skinny" and the motor used oil. I went to the Motorcraft as recommended by Ford and it stopped.

5,000 mile changes and Napa Platinum filter.

I don't have that truck or engine, but I run some flavor of 5W-30 Mobil 1 with a 6K change interval in all of my vehicles and have gone over 250K in a couple of them without ever having an issue. Heck, every internal combustion engine with an oil sump that I own has Mobil 1 in it.

Mobile 1 is excellent oil, but after comparing it extensively to oils like Mobil 7500 or Motorcraft syn blend 5-20, there's not enough of a difference to justify the price difference. If price of oil wasn't a concern, I'd be running royal purple. I also change it at 5,000 miles, but that's just me. Again, my suggestion is Motorcraft 5-20 every 5,000 miles. Ford doesn't recommend using any other additive either.

i read very good things about the fram ultra as well. other fram, not so good. the filter says its good for 15k. i think it was 9 bucks and the oil was 5 bucks a quart. the money doesn't really bother me since the truck gets maybe 10k a year on it so its only 20-30 bucks a year more than blended. so i think i'll do the mobil1 5w20 and the ultra and change at 7500 or so.

thanks for the feedback all.

Used Mobil Delvac 1 in my 99 Dodge Cummins - changed every 20k miles, changed filters at 10k. Black stone labs said no reason to change at 20k - oil still in great condition (yes, very black).

I use Mobil 1 or Delvac 1 in every vehicle I've ever owned. No lube related issues ever (knock on wood).

Run away from Fram... Mobil 1 or Motorcraft filters for me.

The only oil filter that I've ever seen fail was the Fram oil filter in my truck years ago. The oil pressure dropped to zero at highway speed. Luckily, the motor was quickly shut off and no engine damage occurred. No more Fram anything for me.

I run Mobil 1 5-30 Extended Range Full Synthetic in my 6.8L Ford with Motorcraft filters.

Fram Ultra is a damn good filter. I wouldn't use the other Fram products but the Ultra is well built

Pennzoil Ultra Platinum is also a great oil and will keep your engine fairly clean. It works well in my Tundra and the lifter tick I could hear with other oils has gone away

The peace of mind of using Mobil 1 is enough justification for me and I run vehicles until they have little residual value except to the "buy here, pay here" bottom-feeder dealers.
