All I got to say is WTF, Some serious miss leading posts going here. Savage vs Rem two different actions.

.223 action to "shortened" .378wby that's a good one. Sounds expensive for a WSSM with a belt

I've opened feed rails on rems before it ain't rocket science, and the bolt face to .473 is no problem with an aftermarket extractor if that's what u want.

Was thinking the same thing, alot of fcked up advise here. It's not rocket science. Open up the bolt face use a Sako or AR exactor and be done with it. Or like one guy said trade for a .473 action. I'll trade you a short .473 for your .378 action.

It was a Remington short action .243 opened for the shortened .378. As far as "Sounds expensive for a WSSM with a belt" it was a couple decades before the WSSM came out. I couldn't understand how the gun companies were successfully sued by that gun writer when I did the short fat years before he did.

Nobody said it was rocket science...but guys like Greg Tannel charge $150 to open a face. And in the end, you still have a rem bolt. A guy could swap that bolt for $0, or put that $150 towards a ptg which I consider an upgrade...

Hopefully that wasn't a jab at the possibility of running a savage head on a rem bolt.......cause there's a lot of them out there.

I see this same question at least once a year.

Rem 700 223 actions are worth more than Rem 700 308 actions.

It is easy enough to trade down.

But if you are asking the question, you shouldn't be modifying anything.
