Is anyone shooting a 25 souper with the 115-120gr bullets in a 2.8 inch action? I have interest in a L579 in a 9 twist, but only if OAL of 2.8 inches is going to work with the higher BC bullets. I know it would work fine single loaded at longer OALs, but I'm not interested in it if I have to do that. I also know depending on how it's throated, the 2.8 inch OAL may not put a VLD bullet near the lands, which might not be good for accuracy.

Just wondering if it's even a possibility.

You don't have to be close to the lands to shoot small groups. If you think it is a problem, build it on a long action or have the smith cut the throat short. I have a souper and use the Sierra 120gr BTHP. Excellent accuracy but don't know how far off the lands I have the bullet seated, had it for 30 years. Rick.

You don't, but I've never seen having the latitude in your back pocket as a bad thing.

This one is a souper though. I think I'd go 25 creedmoor for the brass

As much as I like the 250AI it would be hard to do again due to 6 and 6.5 creed. Not that either one make a better deer rifle for "us".

This, or 6.5 or 6x47 Lapua.

Guess I wasn't clear, buying not building. Some experience with a 2.8in souper and VLDs is what I was hoping for.
thanks

I have a weakness for 25s and L579s. Add in a 9 twist and I’m really tempted. I just don’t need another single shot target rifle or another 25 to shoot 100gr deer bullets. I’ve never shot the VLDs in 25 as all mine are 10 twist so I have nothing to base OAL on. If I could accurately and easily run VLDs to fit the magazine, I can rationalize a use for the rifle. Yeah, plenty of better choices if I was building, but as I said, I have this strange attraction to L579s and 25s.

A 25 creedmoor would be a 30 degree shoulder 250 ai Right. For brass I use 22-250 for my 250ai.......tons of that out there. I'm looking at a 6mm creed pretty hard. Wayne Van Zoll likes the super a bunch. I think the shorter oal of a 250 ai would be better with the vld style bullets. I run 100 grain bullets in my 250 and it is a deer killing machine. I seem to remember Steelhead shot a very nice black bear with his.

Agreed. Could be happy with any of them.
