I'm trying to set up a Dillon 550B for the first time in .223. Do I have it right than no one makes a carbide small base die? Since I want to use SB--if a carbide version isn't available--do I need to lube with something stronger (thicker/more viscous) than my normal once-over with Hornady One-Shot spray?

Why would you want a small base die? Unless you are shooting a gun with a minimal match chamber they are not needed.

I use Hornady One-Shot and a SB die in my Dillon.

Have you tried a standard die before deciding on SB? SB are seldom required.

About all I have are minimal match chambers....

I don't own a SB 223 die. Never have.

I do own a carbide die, adapted to take neck bushings so you don't have to lube at all, but over the years I never use it that much. But if you don't have neck bushings in your carbide die, be aware you still have to lube brass...

I have a Lee Loadmaster and a Hornady Ammo Plant

Both are dedicated to .223

Both run standard dies and I've used nothing but Hornady spray lube in these progressive presses

No issues with regular dies in any of our families AR's and no issues with the lube
