which shows almost identical numbers between the .270 Winchester & .270 WSM.

This has been my experience with the 270WSM. My M70 never would deliver the that "magnum" velocity. Was blowing primers getting to the same velocity as my CLR and Savage 270's. Had it throated and still would only get maybe 50 fps more. Wasn't as accurate as my 270's either. It's sitting around wanting a rebarrel to some other WSM, maybe a 7mm?

Been getting over 3,300FPS with 130s and Ramshot Magnum in my Tikka 270WSM.Can`t come close to that with my 270 Win.

That's because RL16 is too fast to be in the ideal range for either round.

A few of my friends that have explored the LR potential of the 270WSM and now prefer it as their go-to LR round.

In their experience it puts large game down just as effectively as their 300 Mags with half the recoil and muzzle blast.

It takes a very good bullet and the right powder, but the potential is there. Talking past 700+ yards. Closer in the ole 270Win is right there with it.

I would pick the 7WSM as well, but I'd shoot the 270WSM barrel out first, but that's what they did and they ended up liking the round to stick with it.

Until recent offerings by Berger, where did they find good LR bullets for 25 cal?

Only reason I went with 7WSM is the 180 grain VLD. It was a good reason.

I don't know about 25 cal, we don't own any, but the 270 165 Matrix was the only choice at the time and mostly what they use for LR.

Duh, I mean to write '277 cal'.

But, it's tailor made for the 300 WSM.

The 130 gr velocities look pretty good, almost tailor made for the 270 win. Anyone seen any on shelves yet?

It looks really interesting to me.It is stable in high or low temps and produces excellent velocities in the .270 win.Just have to locate some - somewhere. The only way to know for sure is to try it.

Looks perfect with the 130 grain bullets in my 270 Winchester, higher velocities than RL 17 with the copper reducing agent added.

I'll give it a try with some Nosler's when it hits the shelfs.

I'm thinking R16 should be about perfect for the 6.5x47 Lapua.

Yes, but as we all know, the 270 Winchester is a weak cartridge, while the 270 WSM is a man's cartridge!! smile smile

I just wonder why Alliant has not posted data for RL16 in 308. Both RL 15 and 17 work well in a 308. Rl15 is one of the "go to" powders in 308. According ro the data, RL 16 works well in both 260 Rem & 243 Win, both 308 derivatives. If Alliant's numbering system is consistent, RL 16 should fit right in there, maybe with heavier bullets-168-180?
