So what would you feel a fair asking price would be for the 264 Win Mag...

I have other rifles that have more sentimental value to me because my dad gave them to me. Right now I'm thinking I'll keep the following:

223 Tikka Superlite
243 Remington 700 ADL
25-06 Remington 700 in Bansner stock
270 XTR Featherweight
7-08 Kimber Montana
280 Ackley Kimber Montana
300RUM Remington 700
45-70 JM stamped Marlin guide gun

This will cover me for the rest of my life and then some. I may sell some of these as well but for now I'll sell the rifles I don't ever use or see myself using and I may sell the 280 Ackley and the Marlin as well.

To answer your original question about 1 rifle I just don't know. That little 7-08 can "do it all" but so could the 270. I don't see myself going to just one rifle but I certainly don't need all I have in the safe. It's a bit ridiculous at the moment

I'd keep at least one pre-64 Win M70. Probably the 270 FWT.

Definitely don't sell your rifles as a lot.

I am leaning towards keeping the pre 64 270 FWT and selling the other two that I have that are the push feeds.

Drummond here is a pre 64 FW 270 and Brown PoundR put together in the 80's,and hunted all over the west.

After 3 barrels and two paint jobs, and lots of animals, it is still trucking.

You may be set for life. smile

If the bore of that 264 looks as good as the externals appear to be, I'd appreciate the chance at a shot at it, when you decide what you want to get.

I had one like it many years ago, and foolishly sold it. I know the consensus is that a 264 and a 22" barrel is a terrible mismatch. And I can't disagree. I just have an affinity for the odd balls. Thanks, ST

VERY wise decision....

Sweet looking 264. I've always liked this one. The featherweight westerner is a rare bird. Only 3,116 made. A 98% condition specimen has a value of $2,800.00. A 90% condition rifle has a value of $2,100.00 according to my favorite values book. The only thing I'd question on your rifle is the recoil pad. However, like I told you the first day you brought that rifle home and showed it to us, "look on page 83 of the rifleman's rifle book". Roger Rule shows us a clean example of a featherweight westerner and it looks exactly like your rifle. Even down to the same recoil pad. Funny how a $50.00 recoil pad could make a $500.00 difference in the price tag, but it can in this instance. If the recoil pad is original, I'd put a price tag on the rifle of $2400.00. If not, I'd price it at around $1,900.00 and someone would get a great deal on a super nice rare rifle. If you are feeling extremely generous, drop the price a bit for the gentleman here who seems interested in the rifle so you can both be happy with the deal...However, If it were me, I'd probably not go below $1,800.00 for that rifle... The consensus may differ, but that's the way I see it. Where the hell is winpoor at anyway? He'd be a good one to chime in. He's bought a whole hell of a lot of pre 64's in the past...

There are at least 4 in that stack I wouldn't mind having. But, darn Kimber for not making a LH Montana.

Better pictures to see what it is. I haven't spent any time cleaning or oiling it, I just pulled it out of the safe and snapped a few pictures

That recoil pad looks original to me. Nice looking fwt westerner buddy...

I agree with BSA. It looks identical to the .264 FWT I had. As impractical as a 22" barreled .264 WM might seem, it shot great. Every time I see another I wonder why I sold it.

I have given thought to selling off my M70 collection a time or two as well. Who know what tomorrow's gun collector will be or if there will even be one. Then I think I'll just enjoy them and if the value goes in the crapper it will just stiff the heirs.

I would sell a stash of delectables like that, but only to help fund another toy such as, for example, if I found a '64 Austin-Healey with my name on it.

I own only one rifle which happens to be Winchester 70 ca 1959 and that is all I need rifle wise. I would keep the one you're going to use the most and sell the rest. With early post WWII generation getting older the market isn't going to get any better than it is now. Now is the time to act.
I show Canadian good alternative to goofing around with old .300H&H as candidate for caliber change. The gun happened to be $1700 Browning Safari Grade .375H&H made in Belgium. I see no sign of salt seeping out around x-bolts so likely the rifle is very fair deal. Let us be honest and admit that long-extractor FN Mauser actioned Browning is at least as good as pre-64 Model 70.
