Where can one go to hunt and have a reasonable chance at
a Honey Badger?
I want my wife to come to Africa with me but she says only if
she can take a Honey Badger.
I know the East Cape is out or this question would not be here!
So where else in SA or Namibia would we go?

The northern province has plenty. They can be hunted over bait reasonably easy. Just have your outfitter know this ahead of time and set it up about 2-3 weeks before you arrive.

Depending upon the situation you may just be able to hunt over the gut and bone pile where things are dumped in the bush after skinning and butchering. I usually have trail cameras set up there. Often times there will be 2-3 and as many as 5-6 on the pile at one time. It's a night hunt with a light. They don't even run most of the time they just walk way.

They are Hella Bad ass animals. I had one bite a truck tire and go all the way around as the truck was starting to roll away in neutral. It let go somewhere around 275-300 degrees in the rotation. I know from another PH that one bit his tire and it went flat. Their not that big but have crazy bad attitude!

Speaking of interesting things about animal attitude, I was with Roger from this site hunting from a hide. About 20-30 buffalo came to the water near where we were sitting. There was a warthog in that water rolling and laying cooling off there. When the buffalo came too close, that boar warthog charged the buffalo and got so close they bumped heads. The buffalo retreated and stood by watching this warthog root and eat. They would not challenge him again.

Who would have ever thought that a single medium sized male warthog could drive away a big group of Cape Buffalo? I'm glad somebody was with me to see this so I can be believed.

We ran into one last year in Namibia, and the PH said the same thing about them......badass. He also told me they have little fear of humans, if any. Luckily this one had a skunk in his mouth, and wanted to make sure we didn't want what he had before scampering in his hole with the skunk. I have zero desire to shoot one though.

Honey badger don't care. Doesn't give a [bleep].

I like a watchdog to make a little more noise. But then with a honey badger you could count on it's victims to make enough noise.

Saw some of them in Zaire and Angola. Some them were a different color phase or possibly immature as they had no light color on them.

One group actually had to destroy one to preserve some of their equipment. They said the smell was as bad or worse than a skunk...

They are above normal animal intelligence. They can work things out. They can develop a plan to do things like getting into chickens by stacking rocks against the coup to climb up. They can figure out a gate latch and such. This isnot hearsay I've watched them do it.

Can you imagine that critter if it weighed 100lbs?

They're a blast to hunt! This big old boy came in with 2 others and was obviously a dominant male. He had a club foot that looked like it had been caught in a trap or something.

I saw my first one while entering the property in Botswana on my first Safari in Africa. I wanted one immediately, but it would be 3 years later before I took one in SA. The intensity of being in the presence of these little beasts reminds me of the first American badger I ever saw.

Yes, there is a video somewhere regarding their problem solving skills. Serious escape artist employing near anything to get out of walled compounds.

Folks in camp with me hunted them over a bait. I guess it tried to get in their blind with them and things got kinda sporty. Story made me laugh my azz off.

When reading the above hunting tactics, I immediately began wondering if the inquisitive bastages might make for some unwanted entertainment. I guess that answers that.
