Years ago I had this problem with a 700. Gunsmith shortened ejector spring and corrected the problem. I remember I helped with disassemble of bolt by holding something. Maybe 20 years ago. Now, I am having the same problem with a 788 (223). When the fired case leaves the action it drags on the front, top of the ejection port and dents the case. I have the firing pin removed from the bolt. I had to put a little reward pressure on the firing pin head to clear the bolt body but it came out OK. I wonder if this is the same problem as the 700. I see 2 small holes on the end of the bolt body. If I try to knock this out to get at the ejector spring, how much trouble am I getting into? Thanks, Jerry in SD

I only reload .223 for AR's. I wouldn't know what to do if I didn't have dented cases.

788's do that. The brass hits the scope as it is ejected. One trick is to turn the scope counter close ways 90 degrees. Then use the elevation for windage and the windage for elevation. Or get some really high rings.
