Not terribly slow.
2600 with that length barrel would be more than reasonable.

That's an 18" barrel for you.

Those vel's sound about right for an 18-inch barrel 308
A Doe walks out of the woods today and says, that is the last time I'm going to do that for Two Bucks.

Thanks guys. I need to get 2650 to match my turret. What's the magic powder that's going above and beyond? Varget is getting me there but I'm stepping on it pretty good.

Ahh, the joys of load specific turrets. In RP brass I put 46 gr of Varget under 168 Nosler match bullets and got 2650 out of a 20" barrel. It's a bit stiff, the load is a published max in roomier WW brass. To be frank I suggest getting another turret for a load that's not redlined, or a general purpose one.

Now you've got me, I don't know.
Can't you just ignore the upper markings and use the moa graduations?

I've been using the mil markings and that works just fine, I was just looking to cheat a little more.
I'll have to give Leupold a call in the morning.

Les,
been gone the last week...
Funny you should mention this subject...
doing some load development for a good friend for his 308, we tried RL 15.. and compared it to several other powders...
IMR 4895, 4064, 3031, H 322 and AR Comp...
don't remember the numbers, but we got the most velocity and accuracy with AR Comp...
its suppose to be a temp insensitive version of RL 15, but the data is not interchangeable, as it is a little faster burning than RL 15....Alliants Web Site should have 308 data on it IIRC...
If you need help let me know via PM... I'll be gone again tomorrow morning and back home on either the 3rd or 5th of July.....
before being gone again in about a week...

Great. The one powder that I don't have. It is on the shelves around here so that's a good thing.

4064 or Varget will get you closer. I shoot 44.5 4064 in my 16" and am getting 2565 or so.
Good Shooting!

Thanks guys. I need to get 2650 to match my turret. What's the magic powder that's going above and beyond? CFE-223 will get you there. 49.0 gr is Hodgdon's listed max. Gives 2,828 fps in a 24" tube. That should put you at about 2,675 in a 18-incher. I've gotten their speeds using CFE-223 with 130 and 150 gr pills.
