I am starting to take reservations for my hunting house in South Dakota. Might keep this in mind. We have a great time.

I may be interested in this, for this fall. I assume that the some/alot(?) of the pheasant grounds within that 40mi radius are open to the public?

Yes there are lots of public lands. Walk-In Areas (WIA), Waterfowl Production Areas (WPA), Game Production Areas, State Land, Bureau of Reclamation & Section Lines. I look for places with cover next to crops. A good system that produces lots of birds for me.
South Dakota has a book of maps which is free each year showing all of the public hunting grounds. WIA, WPA and GPA land all have signs on each corner.

Yes, Waterfowl and Game production areas. WIA's are not.

I'm hopeful. I have heard and seen more birds this year than the last 6 years that I have lived in Minnesota combined.

I have not only seen the occasional rooster, but yesterday I saw a hen with chicks! It's a virtual population explosion in east-central Iowa.

May contact you. Will be making our trip to eastern Montana for deer in late October. Just got a GSP last year and am taking him to Montana. Might make a nice trip extension to stop for 2 or 3 days in SD.

Numbers are supposed to be up in Nebraska as well. Might be a good year for pheasant hunting.
