Just returned after spending a week in the bush in northern SK. Listened to CBC radio most every day.

Amazing how everyone on CBC has their panties in a huge bunch over the brexit vote. Condescension dripped off these commentators about how stupid, illogical, bad, etc this move was. Tried to explain the peoples' vote away. Minimize the reasons behind the vote. Intimate that many who voted for it really regret it now and want a redo.

And the patronizing behavior of hosts when a guest came on and agreed with them was unbelievable.

What do you expect from a left leaning government funded public broadcasting corporation? CBC radio is only good for the weather, and even then the sun comes from the left and the clouds from the right.

CBC radio has some really good programing, however the gays, anti-hunting/guns are bad, people run the programing.
I like Anna Marie Tremonti, and think she is one of the exellent hosts on the CBC radio.
I used to turn on the CBC to infuriate my co-workers on the construction site.
Gion Gomeshi was just charged with a number of sexual offenses against his co-workers, he was found not guilty, LOL.

How did you actually manage to survive listening for one week? After 5 minutes or so my blood pressure starts rising lol. Rex Murphy might be the only sane one left there.......

Like in the U.S. the CBC gets it's orders from much higher up above government and only pushes certain agendas.

Good evening to you sir, I trust this finds you well and that the fishing was good and the bugs tolerable.

A good friend and hunting partner calls them the Communist Broadcasting Corporation and with many of the commentators that's not too far from the truth really.

As mentioned they have a definite socialistic slant on everything and most definitely are anti-hunting and anti-gun.

What they are useful for in most instances is covering local events such as fires or floods, etc.

There's an evening show called "As it happens" that can be entertaining - albeit still left leaning as all get out if the subject even has a whiff of political angle to it.

Anyway that's just another example of how things can go awry when the government gets involved - even though their initial intentions were no doubt quite good.

All the best to you folks for the remainder of the summer.

Dwayne

Not much of a choice. Only station we can get and just barely at that.

I know CBC is slanted, but I was really impressed with just how butthurt they were over the Brexit vote. And just how patronizing the announcers were.

Going to take a sat radio in the future.

Nope. Not butthurt at all. I took 2 young kids with me in to the bush for a week. Means I had a lot of Mr. Mom duties every day so I had the radio on for background noise while cooking, cleaning up, etc.

I was just amazed at how personal many on CBC took the Brexit vote.

We caught some fish. My daughter's first time up there so I let her determine how much time was devoted to fishing versus hanging out working on things at the cabin, playing cards or board games etc.

Took off one day and traveled portaged a couple lakes away to chase walleye. Fun adventure. Left the cabin at around 930 for about a 4 hour canoe/portage trip down and 3 hours back. Kids handled it really well. Even got to bring Mom some fish home for taking care of things while we went off and played.

The only thing CBC has to its credit is the official time signal.

The long dash preceded by ten seconds silence is 12 noon. I trust them to get that much right, and little else.

That and Stuart McLean. smile

I guess it doesn't fit their narrative and they can't handle it, they live in their own little world over there. I would love to listen to CBC radio if Western Canada decided to separate, now that would be fun smile

Tarkio, you make me think of CKDR radio in Dryden, sort of like water boarding to try to listen to.

Then again, the CBC news when Katrina hit back when.
The CBC was on strike, so the news was the BBC from England.
Some collage professor had an axe to grind with the US.
I wanted to throw a rock through my own TV.

Is there a possibility that the Brexit vote was a mistake and/or that the ramifications will be negative? If so, why should it not be reported?
I get tired of the obvious anti-gun/ anti hunting slant as well but this is common to virtually ALL mainsream media; not just the CBC. In our area, CBC is sort of left-wing rural. Most other broadcast groups are left-wing urban.
While it is plain that many CBC personalities have little real-word contact or experience, the same is also true of most others. Let's face it, the hunting, fishing, firearms enthusiasts, crowd isn't going to be a demographic which is likely to be courted by any media outlet anytime soon. GD

The CBC should be privatized immediately with no more public funding. Talk about idiocy; how can we expect unbiased media when it is funded by biased parties...

Your're right. CBC Radio One was shameless in their Liberal/NDP support during the last election. Taxpayers should not have to pay for that.

The Left's Uncomfortable Relationship with Democracy
By Robert on July 4, 2016 4:00 PM | 42 Comments
A few days ago I had dinner with some German ex-pats in Silicon Valley. The topic of Brexit arose and one woman was adamant that this vote wasn't right. A fellow chimed in that there's now a petition to have another vote to overturn the first one.

Elections have consequences. So do referendums. It seems that whenever Left-of-Centre folks (Democrats, Liberals, 'Remain' supporters) don't get their way then they immediately throw out multiple disparagement cards about those who voted differently than them: Racists, Sexists, Idiots, Ignoramuses, etc. One wonders if they have any sense of self-awareness to realize how similar they sound to spoiled children.

Rex Murphy recently shared his thoughts on the subject:

The comments from SDA where the above was posted, show that not all Canadians think of themselves as being "morally and socially superior"..

Good evening to you sir and thanks so much for the link to Rex's latest erudite commentary.

He was one of the few reasons to listen to CBC radio with his Cross Country Checkup and now that he's retired I for one sorely miss him.

If I could figure out how to leave a comment on that blog I surely would do so. Perhaps morning coffee will give me enough of a moment of clarity.

Thanks again sir and all the best to you this summer.

Dwayne

As you can see many of us here feel the same way about cbc as you do..
I use to work out of a logging camp 2 hours from a rural B.C. town and all we got on our machines was cbc..
Haven't listened to the bastards since I bought a sat radio..
