Hey All,

Well...my buddy got some interesting news yesterday when he realized his credit card was dinged by the AZ govt for the price of a sheep tag! Doesn't have the 'results' in hand yet but his first choice was 45A and he just realized his second choice was one that non-residents couldn't apply in, so guessing that means he drew 45A for sheep this year!

Pretty cool, and a hunt that I'm hoping to be a part of this year! He is a sheep hunter from Alberta and is 33 years old in good shape for mountain hunting. Has a family place in Mesa and a vehicle to use down there, but is starting to look at all the logistics of camps, vehicles, scouting trip, hunting as a DIY vs hiring the services of an outfitter (even if he could find someone on a day rate or pay for assistance, etc).

Anyone have any info about the zone, the sheep, etc? Just starting to do some preliminary info searching for him, pretty darn exciting for sure and will be awesome when he sees the results fully on paper, but for now the anticipation grows!!!

No knowledge of that unit but this will get you started. Generally, AZGFD info is very good.

Congrats on the tag. Once in a lifetime hunt for sure -

He'll probably get info from local outfitters that guide for sheep in that unit via mail.

Thanks ya we've been doing a bit of reading so far and the site seems great. I'm sure he'll get all sorts of contacts from outfitters/guides in the mail as well.

Will be a cool hunt I'm sure!!! Pretty exciting!

The AZGFD gathers detailed information from successful hunters during check out on numbers of sheep seen and the kill locations. Your buddy should track down the unit manager and spend some time talking to him.

He might want to join the Arizona Desert Bighorn Sheep Society, lots of helpful members that should have good info on the unit.

Thanks Mike, I've mentioned that to him as well about the ADBSS.

Good to know about the kill locations being noted and all the other detailed information. He had recorded age/length of hunt/score of rams for the past 8 years or so, but my guess is if he can get time to talk to the unit manager that will go a long ways!

Hahaha yep, that's about the consensus between the two of us the last few days!
