Found a CVA hunter SS compact model in 7mm-08 for $279.

Any opinions or likes/dislikes on them?

We bought one at Academy when they 1st got them. It is accurate. It is a bit heavy for the grandkids trying to shoot offhand, but not too bad. We hunt out of stands so not a big deal. I like carrying it when walking around the lease because of it being compact. Ours is in 243.

I have one in 300 Blackout that is more fun than a barrel of monkeys. Really good trigger right out of the box. Accurate. I shoot supersonics out of it.

My BIL got a 308 from Academy Sports and loves it. He did have an issue with the extractor last year that cost him a deer, but once that was repaired, it has worked fine. From what I have seen, those are good cheap rifles once the bugs are worked out. All the best with yours.

Well mine came in couple weeks ago. Very nice little gun. Its actually smaller than I thought it would be which is a plus.
I wanted this one to have something small and handy to carry in the truck. Its close to 10/22 size. Fit and finish was good on it with a nice tight lockup.

I stuck a fixed 1x24 scope on it I had laying around till my 2-7x32 comes in. I really like the small size of the 24 on it, but a variable 1-6x24 is more than double the price of a 2-7x32.

It shot well. I zeroed it at 50 and ran about a boxfull thru it just to see how it does.
Its light weight gives ya a pretty good thump with standard 140 loads. With reduced recoil Hornady lite 120's it was a dream to shoot. If your going to get one for a youth gun id definitely recommend using the 120 lites.

Overall im very pleased with it.

I recently purchased a 7MM-08 in the Hunter model.I was very pleasantly surprised with the accuracy of this compact rifle. A lot of that is due to the nice nice trigger pull.
It is a well made rifle and I plan to hunt with it this year.
Mine was bought used and had a Tasco 3X9X40 on it which seems to do well.
I'd like to find one in 45/70.

The more I listen,the more I hear....and vice versa.

45/70,it's almost a religion.

If you have to take a second shot then you probably shouldn't have taken the first shot.

A cousin of mine bought one in 7-08 for his petite 14 year old daughter. I loaded Nosler 120 BTs at full power and it is very accurate with very light recoil. If I were looking for a youth rifle or a truck gun, I would not hesitate buying one.

I don't think so, but a few folks have rechambered the .35 Remington barrels to .358 Win. They do chamber it in .35 Whelen.
