My new Colt Delta Elite has finally arrived. It's the latest version of the Colt Delta Elite, the model O2020XE. The Glock 20C is going down the road.

You will love it. Run it wet until brake in is complete.

What was the knock on the first version?

Only took him 30 years to update the Delta, so glad they finally did. That one will be fun.

The Deltas are probably the most reliable 10mm I have seen, and the new ones are very well made. I just wish they'd use a ramped barrel to better support the case head.

The grips are unmistakable.

They are not fully supported, but not bad. Use Starline brass and good loads and everything will be okay. Even without Starline brass your okay.

I might add, you know that you are going to enable 'flave. Which isn't always a bad thing.

You do not have to shoot it. It looks good on your hip at cookouts.

Checked the specs for improvements on the O2020XE. Sounds like they put some thought into them.

The first Deltas were blued and some suffered from frame problems.
The second generation of Deltas were SS but did not have the following features of the generation 3 Deltas.
Gen 3 has upswept beavertail safety, Novak sights, flat mainspring housing, Commander hammer, extended thumb safety and 3 hole trigger. I added some Wilson parts to my Colt XSE LWT Commander when I got it years ago. The new Delta Elite looks similar, but it came like this from the factory.

The introduction model of the Delta Elite did crack in one small area of the frame after many, many rounds. That was back when the original Norma loads were being used. Very hot Loads. Hotter than anything today including loading data. How did Colt solve the problem? They removed that small portion all together. No problems after that. Colt kept the 10mm alive. Later the S&W 1006 came along. Very nice and strong gun.

I have the next generation as you call it. They did come with the Commander hammer and the hand filling arched mainspring housing. The new ones have a flare added to the ejection port. It already is lowered. I like the new sights. I am not a fan of the extended safety. The upswept beaver tail safety is a nice touch. I have never been bit by mine though. I have big hands, so the wrap around grip is nice for me. The new slide serrations are nice. Good gun.

I bought a blued Delta in the late 80s (IIRC). Sent it Alex Hamilton (10 Ring Precision) for accuracy job. Later added some custom touches (hammer, sear, beavertail, S&A flat mainspring/magwell housing, lower/flare eject port, front strap checking and hard chrome finish).

Here's a recent picture of the custom Delta lower with a Nelson Custom .22 conversion unit and suppressor.

The only problem I've had with this early olt 10mm is bulged cases from the unsupported barrel. Looks like belted mag after firing. This is with slightly less than today's book loads.

Very nice gun and caliber.

FWIW,

Paul
