I'm in the market for new optics for an old 264, it currently wears a Leupold 6X42 plex from the 90's and I'm looking for new glass with better performance.
It's going to be used for covering SC/GA agricultural fields for deer, hogs and yodel dogs of opportunity out to 400 yds; seeking great low performance.
Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks

My 264 Win Mag is topped off with the new MINOX ZA5 3-15. IMO, comparable to the Conquest.

Leupold 3.5-10 with either a varmint hunter reticle or the plex. Lightman

I'd leave well enough alone, that's a nice scope on it now.

If forced, despite a smaller eye box, the 4.5x14 Leupold is a good one. My .264 is my antelope rifle, this scope (w/ B&C) and dual dovetail mounts, make it sing. The rifle (one of the limited run New Haven Model 70 SGs in about 2000) is a tack driver, and I like being able to run the scope up pretty high for a very long shot.

I think if I go over $600.00 there maybe some loud, vocal discussions that will disrupt domestic tranquility.

Then go with a 3-9x40 Conquest at around $400.

I like the Leupold 4.5x 14 with the CDS. You can get the on sale for around 400.00. Sometimes used for 350.00.

A new scope doesn't sound like the answer...

For that rifle buy what I want; but " Honey, I got this Z5 for only $500" is the story.

^^^ This

Or, you could go with "I traded an old Bushnell that I had, to a guy on one of forums who goes by 'Shrapnel' for the Z5." laugh

Wow, I guess some threads do go on forever.
Thanks for all of the suggestions.
I sold that rifle in 2010 to a Sako collector who really had to have it; the Leupold 6x42 went with it.

Ha; did not roll up to the top.
Was it a Deluxe, 26" barrel?
Hope he bought a nice scope; if he is one of those "Sako Collectors" that pays crazy money; I need his name for future reference smirk

Buy the best scope you can, and either stretch the truth or just outright lie.

I have 2 of the first year Finnbears with the 26 inch barrels. One is a 3 digit serial and the other is 4 digit. They both are shooters.
