Get a few options and lay em out for us. I can't blindly commit. But I think it would be a lot of fun.

Fair enough Tom. I'll do some homework and post my findings here.

another one that I use is Ballards resort or even Cyrus resort. they are both day houses but both have nice cabins and facilities. I use ballards both summer and winter. Arnesons has sleepers and also a day houses with either cabins or trailers to stay in. arnesons may fish more reefs where ballards will usually be more in the mud. All depending on the ice conditions. last year fishing didn't get going until the mid of January up here. and then most resorts pulled off what was a month early because of ice conditions and safety. Either way its a fun trip. if you want to try something that may be cheaper is Ken Mar Ke Resort.

I'm with Tom, get some options and I'll know if I have a chance at making it or not, I would really like to go again. I haven't been up there since Dave and I helped that feller and his kids with his orange track truck. Nate was still just a lad then, so I'm due!

Okay so here's a little research I just did:

January 2017 weekends:
Fri. Jan. 6th-Sun. Jan. 8th
Fri. Jan. 13th-Sun. Jan. 15th
Fri. Jan. 20th-Sun. Jan. 22nd
Fri. Jan. 27th-Sun. Jan. 29th

The following rates are all based on arriving Friday night and leaving Sunday. It sounded like there was more interest in a 3 day weekend than a full week trip. All fish house rentals include transportation to and from the fishhouse, and bait.

I chose 3 well known resorts, and a smaller one called Walleye Retreat. My next door neighbor uses Walleye Retreat regularly during the spring and summer and said we might want to consider trying it.

So here we go:

Cyrus Resort
800-932-2924
www.cyrusresort.com
3928 Cyrus Road
Baudette, Mn. 56623
Cabin-$72.50 per night per person
Fish house- $90.00 per day per person (2 holes per person)
No rates listed for sleeper fish houses.

Arneson's Rocky Point Resort
218-442-7215 or 800-535-7585
www.arnesons.com
6760 Rocky Point Road N.W.
Roosevelt, Mn. 56673
Cabin and fishing $282.00 per person
Overnight fish house $202.00 per person

Zippel Bay Resort
218-783-6235
www.zipplebay.com
6080 39th St. N.W.
Williams, Mn. 56686
Cabin/fishhouse-$350.00 per person
Sleeper fishhouses 2 men- $300.00 4 men-$290.00 6 men- $285.00 (per person)

Walleye Retreat
218-634-3126 800-726-9042
www.walleyeretreat.com
cabin and fishhouse $290.00 per person
Sleeper fishhouse $90.00 per person per day.

I'll try to field any questions anyone might have, but I highly recommend everyone looks at their websites first.

I couldn't navigate Ballard's website. All that opened was the front page, but I couldn't get to their rates and offerings.

Of these resorts, I would say Cyrus would be the best choice. They have nice clean cabins, many are updated. good bar with video games/pool table as well for the kids. Early fishing is always the best up here. Normally, my first trip is a buddies birthday the 15th of December. If theres good ice. At that time of year, a lot of the resorts are all fishing the same area other than arnesons. they are farther west and north. a lot of times you don't go too far out and doesn't take a long time to get to your house.

Jan 13-15 is out for me, monday is a holiday that weekend if it makes a difference to other folks. I go elk hunting in NM then. being gone 2 weekends in a row might not sit well with mama. although if I brought home walleye and elk in the same month..... hmmmm. I'll have to check

i would love to but it would depend on which weekend is chosen. i would consider me doubtful but possible. I already have a week in Canada in the summer and an elk hunt planned.

Berrettaman

Wife and I are doing Wyoming elk in Oct. near Yellowstone. I worked loads up starting in Jan. to avoid the hot weather. Now were into the 5 or 6 days a week workouts.

Just in case others are interested and missed the talk on this, we're trying to put together an ice fishing run to Lake of the Woods in January. I looked up pricing at some of the resorts up there. You can find this on this thread, probably a page or two back now. If anyone's interested, get in touch with me here. So far it's me and T-Zone, and a couple definite maybes. We'll need to come up with a pretty solid head count and commitment level so we can proceed. The pricing I checked on was for weekends (Friday and Saturday night stay), but we couold save some money by going on weekdays. We also found it's quite a bit cheaper to rent a sleeper fishouse than to rent day houses and cabins. Give it some thought and join us. It should be a great time.

Hey Gophergunner, if your thinking sleepers, may also be worth checking into Adrians resort as well then. I think they have some nice sleepers as well and they take care of the road on the east side of the lake. Could also bring portables as well then and move a bit more if that was a choice you wanted to do. some of there wheel houses are called a carsella shack which are pretty roomy and comfy.
