About the person or persons responsible for an explosion at the Savage Arms plan on July 10th. 1907. Wonder if they ever found out who or why? I don't remember ever hearing of an explosion at Savage Arms early on. $500 REWARD

Were they making powder and ammo at Utica's plant too? July 10, 1907 in Utica, 80 degree-high, 55 degree-low wasn't unusually warm, no lightning storms reported...it was the new moon though...darkest night of the month..., hmmm

I'm sure there were plenty of materials in a factory at the turn of the 20th century that would, if mixed together, go boom. Especially if the mixing involved chemicals. But it is interesting that Savage offered an award, suggesting that they thought something foul, deliberate, derilic or neglagent had happened.

$500 would have bought 4 or 5 of the higher grade rifles in 1907 or 20-25 of the standard rifles.
