Would appreciate comments from those that have used this bullet on medium to large game. How does it compare to Bergers and Scenars?

I'd love to hear the answer.

Wasn't aware JLK made hunting bullets.

From their website:

HUNTING vs. TARGET bullets.....
Please note that JLK's projectiles are quite suitable for use in the hunting field. The same qualities that make other brands of VLD bullets good for hunting come though in ours as well. In point of fact, several Custom Long Range Hunting Rifle builders use our 6.5mm, 7mm, and 30 cal projectiles in the custom loaded ammo they sell with their custom hunting rifles.

Used them to take two large northern whitetail bucks, one of them at 640 yards, started at 3150 fps.

50 cent size exit wounds with both.

Going to use them on an elk hunt this year, hope I can report success.

That's a pretty small exit hole. How expansive are those bullets, how quickly did the critters die and what did the wound channels look like?

mclevela,

Thanks! I appreciate the pic, nice to see an exit wound. How far away was the second buck?

DF,

You and I have much different ideas about what a small exit wound is. That looks ideal to me. Betting the chest cavity was liquified also.

Not meaning to hijack, but can anyone she'd any light on how sensitive they are to seating depth? Would love to try them in my GAP 260, but am limited to 2.81 max length.

Well, wound channel and quick demise are the gold standards, for sure.

I've shot JLK bullets in my 6.5-284, just been a while. Never used them on game. Have since built a 26 Nosler and a 6.5 Creedmoor, so more opportunities.

How does terminal performance compared to Scenar and Berger?

I took a mule deer buck, an antelope doe, a whitetail buck and a button buck with the 6.5mm 130 gr JLK last fall. Starting velocity was 3150 fps from my 6.5 SAUM.
The mule deer buck was shot frontally in the heart from 250 yds, no exit or bullet recovered.
The antelope doe was shot through the ribs at 100 yds. She just flipped over backwards. Lung soup, 50 cent to silver dollar size exit.
Whitetail buck 250 yards hit too high then hit in the ham hard quartering away as he was about to enter thick brush. He dropped on the spot from the second shot. Damage about what you would expect from a hit to the femur. Went safariman on the second shot but I already had a bullet in him and all bets are off on follow up shots.
The button buck was about 75 yards shot through the ribs. Similar exit to antelope, staggered about 20 yards. Lungs shredded.
Over all, very pleased with the performance and very similar to the handful of critters I've taken with the JLK 7mm 168 gr at 3200 fps.

Like previously mentioned, scenarshooter will be able to give the best info due to large sample set on a variety of game.

Thats about the same size berger bullets give me. I wouldn't want anything bigger, IE ballistic tip type big holes....

They die right quickly.... as quickly as anything else. IMHO.

Good info.

Never thought of hunting with JLK.

I've seen shrapnel type exits with VLD's. They do kill quickly.

To me the more expansive bullets can be pretty velocity sensitive.

Matching bullet construction to velocity is an art.

I use them in lieu of Bergers because they are manufactured locally and I can just go over and pick them up. They are basically identical in construction to hunting Bergers according to Swampy at JLK.

I plan to use 140 gr JLKs this fall in the 6.5 SAUM I'm having built due to the higher velocity I'll get from 2" more barrel. Don't want to start them much over 3100 fps in case of a close shot.

Yep, if they're close to VLD construction, 3,100 fps should be tops.

They should be interesting in the 6.5 Creedmoor, I'll check'em out.

They shot very well out of my 6.5 SAUM. Took 2 whitetail fawns out in WY, not a big test but they worked. Going to try them on KY white tails next month...

I need to try the 130 grain JLK 6.5 when I get my new rifle.

Using them in my 264WM at 3249fps but haven't taken any game with them yet. Hopefully this season I will find out how they are on game.
