Or not... http://www.adn.com/alaska-news/crim...tenderloin-gets-hit-with-50000-in-fines/Fairbanks restaurant passing off elk as 'reindeer tenderloin' gets hit with $50,000 in fines Author: Suzanna Caldwell Updated: 16 hours ago Published 19 hours ago A Fairbanks restaurant that knowingly sold New Zealand elk as reindeer pleaded guilty Tuesday after being criminally charged with violating Alaska food safety laws. As part of a plea agreement for the misdemeanor charge, The Pump House LLC agreed to pay $50,000 in criminal fines after an investigation revealed the restaurant had been serving elk in place of a "reindeer tenderloin" since at least 2013, according to a statement from the Alaska Department of Law. The restaurant also agreed to split $10,532 in donations to three Fairbanks nonprofits as restitution and issue a public apology in the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner. Assistant Attorney General Carole Holley said in an interview Tuesday that during a routine health inspection an investigator noted that reindeer was listed on the menu but there was no reindeer meat actually in the restaurant. Employee interviews, including with the restaurant manager, later confirmed that the restaurant had sold elk in lieu of Alaska reindeer. In its public apology notice printed Saturday, the restaurant acknowledged it learned such a practice was in violation of state and federal law in August 2015. The notice said the restaurant immediately corrected the menu. Alaska's food labeling laws serve as both a public health service, indicating possible allergy concerns, and to eliminate unfair business advantages. The restaurant currently lists a "red deer tenderloin" on its menu, served with "berry demi-glace, sweet potato bacon hash and chef's vegetables." Attorneys for The Pump House declined to comment Tuesday. About this author Suzanna Caldwell

Sad you would condone breaking laws as a regular course of action.

Sad you would condone breaking laws as a regular course of action. Yeah, let's stick up for Alaska's cops. We need more of our senior citizens being arrested and put behind bars when people come into their homes, yell at them in response to simple requests, and threaten to burn their homes. What difference does it matter if people break laws when our leaders do it and our enforcers apply it haphazardly?

Interested to see what this apology entailed (not seeing it online). Is it one of those "sorry we got caught, didn't know it was against Federal/State law" type of apologies? Or was it a "genuine" apology for lying to customers for several years, regardless of the legality?

You cannot go back and change your words. Here, the folks got caught and the inspectors (reporters?) made it sound like they caught Al Capone while serious violators are not even prosecuted in many cases here... Huge difference, but you missed that and claimed I was advocating breaking laws... yeah, everyone run out and buy a restaurant and start selling mislabeled meat!

No dog in this fight but I had to chuckle when you only corrected on the Moderator part & left the biggest azz alone.....lol You don't know how much I appreciate that you didn't use me as an example that at best you'd be the second biggest : )

The head guy at Mckinley meat processing in Palmer told me that the threshold was 4% to call the sausage reindeer sausage. Been several years, but at the time a 100# reindeer carcass sold for as much as a whole beef.

They should have called them chicken nuggets. Then no one would have cared what was in them.

You're correct, words do have meanings, so please don't change mine or attempt to put words in my mouth. For example the word "condone" does not mean the same thing as the word "advocate." I never used the word "advocate," which is plain to see in my post above. So that's the first example of you changing the words I wrote and the meaning of what I've said. The second example is plain to see in the other thread. I was very clearly using an example (hosting a hunter from another state) that had nothing to do with the state of Alaska because I don't live there. I can't break the law you cited because I don't live in Alaska. I've hunted and fished in Alaska, never broken a game law there, and never will. And the OP's question had nothing to do with Alaska. But you injected Alaska into the discussion and accused me of advocating breaking one of Alaska's game laws that's impossible for me to break. For that, you deserve a hearty GFY. Which I am happy to supply.
A wise man is frequently humbled.

I was a little disheartened the other day, was looking at some reindeer sausage/sticks and the ingredients listed something like this: Pork, beef, spices Less than 2%: reindeer, etc One of those things, know what you're putting in your belly lol.
