Do they run any great sales on Sako 85s around Christmas? I want one but am willing to wait. Or is it possible to buy just the action? The idea of a 257 Roy is rather appealing.

Thanks

Finding one isn't the issue, I would like to find one at a substantial discount, which I doubt happens often.

Check with Eurooptic. At one time they had some black finished Finnlights at a great price.

They don't go on sale very often if ever. You may be able to find a used one in decent condition. Accuflite might be a source for an action.

Finding a 85 finlite in 257 weatherby would be like finding the powerball number written inside your box blind. I can think of better actions to build a 257 one would be a sako 75 if you can find one of those actions in a rough condition 7mm rem or 300 win mag.

After owning 2 Finnlights in 270 and 243 and a SS Sako 85 in 338 Federal I honestly can't say I'm impressed with them, especially for the amount of $$ they cost.

The Tikka T3's I've owned shot better at 1/3 the price.

I didn't figure I would find a 257 Roy Sako, I figured I would have to build it. Finding a "cheap" Sako action that will work is going to be the "fun" part.

I have never regretted selling any Tikka I owned but can honestly say I regret every Sako I have ever sold. No they are not 1/3 of the price either.

You're entitled to your opinion but I disagree. The Tikkas are nice but Sako's are better quality. If you're only interested in group size buy a Savage. It's the little things that make a great hunting rifle.

The Sako's feed smooth and more important, quietly. They are usually very accurate, well made, solid hunting rifles. Are they perfect? No. But what is? I've got rifles from Pre 64 70's to Weatherby, Sako, Sauer etc. I can find faults in all of them.

Not likely that you'll see a special price advertised. You'll have to call around. Sako has MAP pricing and is know to enfoce it.

Just purchased a Sako 85 Kodiak and a T3 from eurooptic. They are running sales on T3's right now, probably to make room for the new T3x's.

Anyways, I'm happy with both purchases...without much load development, they both shoot less than an inch at 100.

The kodiak (.375 H&H) is about the perfect weight (9.5 lbs with full mag and 2-7x scope), and is very smooth and quiet cycling rounds. My only gripe is that it needs a better recoil pad, which I'll update with a decelerator eventually.

The tikka (.243) reminds me of any of the big brand cheap rifles that are being sold these days, until you work the action...very smooth. I really like the all plastic single stack magazine, feeds really well and is also very quiet and easy to load. Bought this gun primarily as a truck gun for shooting woodchucks at long range and eventually speed goat hunting.

Will be purchasing a few more Sako 85's, next on the list is a black synthetic (1099.99 at eurooptic) and probably one of the brown bear models.

I have owned a dozen or more Sako rifles, I like Sako rifles but im not in love with any particular make or brand, I like several...The Sako's I owned were all accurate (a few more accurate than others) I can say not every one of My Ssko's would live up to the Sako 5 shot MOA guarantee and a few of My 30-06 action length rifle's did displsy the common Sako ejection issue but hey nothing is perfect, hell I might even buy another one someday.....I can say that Beretta CS is the worst I have personally dealt with ........I have never regretted selling any rifle, when I make up My mind to sell a rifle I dont look back, They make them every day so I dont worry about it, if I want another one ill just go buy it.........Good luck with your choice........Hb

Well said. I swapped out extractor and it cured my Finnlight 30-06 with a slightly lower ejection angle. Kit from Brownells. It always ejected fine but sometimes grazed bottom of scope using Optilock low 1 pc ringmounts.

Does Sako even offer the 257 Roberts in a model 85, or any rifle for that matter? I don't think I've ever seen one.

Biebs,

I've owned a ton of Sako's, and thanks to you I own one more!

Here is the only Sako I've owned in the 257 Bob. L579 with custom stock and heavy barrel.

I've tried numerous tools such as the Wyoming knife and the Gerber EZ zip. I'm always nicking myself with the backside blade on the Wyoming knife, and it and the Gerber ez Zip are somewhat fragile. This one is my favorite and the handle is of sufficient size and construction to get a good grip and pull. It's by Browning and it flat works for unzipping hoglets..........

I truly wish they would import a Bavarian Carbine in 8mm Mauser. Of the rounds it is made in, the combo seems like a perfect match but they don't import that one...

We all want what we want at substantial discounts. However, except for rare finds, that which is in demand is usuallt most expensive...for good reason.

You guys would laugh at how cheap these are in Norway. They are half the price. A Weatherby Vanguard is more expensive than a Sako there.

That's hard to imagine. I spend a fair bit of time on the European hunting forum Stalking Directory. On that site they gush over Sakos and don't have much good to say about US made rifles(Vagaurd Japanese). It's a gentlemen's game over there though. They own fewer Guns but of higher quality from what I gleaned.
