I acquired a Model 70 HV in .223 Remington a while back and have had some persistent issues with it.

One is an accuracy problem, but I think I may have found the cause for that---the magazine box seems to have been slightly too tall for its recess and the action was not riding the inletting correctly. I fixed that, and expect to see better accuracy next trip to the range. Another problem was ejection, and a new extractor took care of that little annoyance. The the last problem is a feeding issue, and I'd like advice and ideas on this.

It seems that when I load up the magazine, every round feeds well except for the next-to-last round (the second round loaded). It seems to slip the feed rails and get itself all cattywhumpus in the action. It sometimes will even manage to come flying out of the action when closing the bolt. I had a Remington 700 that did this, and stretching the magazine spring seemed to fix it, but not this Model 70.

Any ideas or advice?

If it's the LH round that springs up the cure is usually (not always) a slight increase of the bend of the RH feed lip of the magazine..

Just for S&G, have you tried a different magazine box to see if the issue is there with that one?

Thanks for the suggestion, Redneck---that was the magic! It WAS one of the rounds sitting to the left...the second round fed into the mag well (next to last one out when firing). Feeds like it should now.

All my other Model 70s are LA, so it never occurred to me to swap out the magazine box.
