This was originally set up by the maker for a scope, but I want to iron sight it.

25" barrel, 22" twist 45.

Shoots a 280gr SAA ok, should be able to go to 400gr and stabilize.

Want to be able to cover my regular hunting grounds, (50-150 yards) but would like to plink out to 300 if given the time (about a 25MOA drop)

About a 3/4" drop on the tang from top of barrel.

Thought about a rear barrel sight, a tang sight for long range, and probably a hooded front, since I seem to handle those better.

Thoughts?

Classic style for that style is a hooded post or wire bead up front and a lollipop sight on the tang. Might be one of the MVA B series scopes would serve purposes as well

I am..........disturbed.

Concerning the difference between man and the jackass: some observers hold that there isn't any. But this wrongs the jackass. -Twain

My thoughts are that's a nice rifle! Looks like it'll be a fun shooter. I know it wouldn't be "correct", but one of those MVA rough and ready sights might fill the bill.

I got a 54 caliber with a 42 inch barrel.

This one is fine the way it is…

OK, new wrinkle.

I stopped by the fun store and it turns out the original owner had commissioned another barrel for this underhammer. A fast twist 45 sporter weight, with iron sights. Mine now....

So.....

Considering the heavy barrel was tapped for a scope, and has holes in it at the breech end, I'm thinking now that a sight like this would be in order:

Then I can get the sights "barrel specific" and use the sporter weight for hunting. Will probably replace the rear sight on the sporter with something like the rough and ready or express sights.

about 5" longer and a pound lighter than the heavyweight.

I'll have to slug it and run a tight patch, but I suspect its a 22 twist Douglas 45-70 barrel like the other.
