I drew a tag this year in 34-1. This is my first mule deer hunt so I have a couple of questions. I'll be shooting a Nosler 48 in 7 Rem mag. I've been trying different handloads and this gun loves the Hornady 162 BTSP with RL22. What do you guys think of this bullet? What's the average shot encountered with mule deer hunting? Thanks

Average shot will be 200 yards and under. The 162 has killed a pile of them for me in the 7x57....Im sure it swill work in a 7mag.

Your good to go. The 162BTSP is ideal for deer. For Elk and this may just be loonyism but the flat base 160 IL seemed to hold the core better but not by much. Another powder that holds promise is R26 it won't beat R22 by much except for temperature stability.

That's a good tag/unit. I'll be interested to hear how your hunt goes - good luck by the way. Please let us know how you do.

I plan on burning my preference points for a tag in that unit next year. You should have a fun hunt though that's for sure!!

I've hunted 34 for many, many years. Your rifle/bullet combo will work great. You can shoot them close or far in 34. My last one was about 15 yards. My daughter killed one last year at 300.
