This is a winchester 70 I purchased a few years ago. Was re-barreled in the 50's to a 22-06. I shot probably 100 rounds through it, and it shot fine.A friend talked me out of it, and he took it to a gunsmith for re-barreling to a 35 Whelen. After unscrewing the barrel, they informed him of the reciever being cracked.Honestly dont know if they did it or was already there. Tryed to show in the picture, but hard to see. It is a hairline crack at 12.00 oclock and runs to the front base screw hole. Can this be fixed, or just part the gun out. I've already had an offer on the stock, not cut for a pad but barrel channel hogged out.
Which he would have just left it alone, was kinda unique!

I would talk to Chad Dixon, of Longrifles,Inc. He likes M70's and is extremely knowledgeable. He will be able to tell you if it is fixable, or what the best plan of execution would be for it.

Buy a receiver from these folks if it is indeed cracked.

Pour a little gasoline in the crack/suspected crack. If it is a crack, it will seep the gas for a longtime

We're always pleased when we can play a role in keeping a vintage model 70 out of retirement.

Thanks for the referral!

About time you made it here. I get your emails, good deals and parts there. Good luck with it...
