Be warned to steer clear of John Burda at Twin Oak Arms, out of Connecticut.

I purchased a Remington 760, in 270 Winchester from him, and it was not as advertised. What I got was a 7600, and he now refuses to refund the shipping.

Further, he held onto the MO and FFL for a week before sending the rifle out. He first claimed that he had not received it yet, then when I pointed out that I had a delivery confirmation from the USPS, he claimed that it must still be at his post office.

John Burda at Twin Oak Arms will sell you a rifle that is not as advertised, hold your money for a week until you basically force him to ship the thing, then refuse to refund shipping on the rifle that was not as advertised.

Here is the Gunsamerica Ad .

Beware of this dishonest seller.

That would be a PITA. This guy don't know a 760 from a 7600 ....Maybe we ALL should give him call.....

CAS,

How could a 7600 not be drilled and tapped for scope bases? Were the holes actually there? Thanks...Bill.

Obviously it is drilled and tapped for a scope mount. I doubt the guy ever actually saw the darn thing.

It really makes me mad, because I was buying it for my FIL for Christmas. He had all of his guns stolen this summer, and his one and only deer rifle was his 760. He had hunted all over the west, for decades, with that rifle exclusively.

Very early Remington Model 760's were not drilled and tapped for scope mounting. He probably knows this and was using that line to mislead potential buyers. Just a guess.

Just got this nice response from the clearly classy John Burda, of Twin Oak Arms:

"Hey:
You must be one of those [bleep] Cry Baby Yuppies. If the world doesn't go your way, you whine, cry, stamp your feet and throw a trantrum.
We process hundreds of guns a week, here, from selling on the internet, guns shows, walk-ins, etc. it's easy to over look some things as this place is like a railroad station, with many people doing multiple functions, some are more experienced than others. We don't try to decieve people.
As for your [bleep] cry baby internet sites, go ahead, the only peole who read them are [bleep] like you that like to cry about the time you "got screwed".It doesn't affect my selling guns at all!"

you would think someone who claims to have been buying out gunsmiths estates for 35 years would know the difference.I wonder how many jewels he's fumbled away over the years.

I gave up on Gunsamerica. I had 2 good experiences then a really bad one. I bought a "LNIB" 700 BDL mountain rifle in 280. Supposedly had a hand lapped barrel so it is "100%+" When I got it, the thing was a POS. It was well worn and even had an extremely pitted barrel. I asked for a refund and got a "sorry pal." I complained to GA and they sent the guy an email asking him to give me a refund. The butthead said no. I wrote the nastiest email I could and fired it off to him. He changed his name and when I called him on it, he changed it again. There is scum on that site and refuse to use it. I know there are good folks on the site but I won't take chances again with my $.

CAS,
Well, after that e-mail,I'd send him this-

"You know,I know where (write in his town)is.If you'ld like,I'll drive down tomorrow, and we can talk about this man to man."

Worked for me about a year ago.A dealer got smart with me over the phone after sending me a "LNIB" gun that had a pitted bore and a 3 inch crack in the stock. He told me I "didn't know [bleep]".I told him I knew where Nashville was.He NEXT DAY AIRED me my refund, including shipping both ways, and even e-mailed me an apology.

You have to get tough with these guys. He's only acting like this because he knows you can't reach across the computer screen and smack him.

Don't hold your breath. GunsAmerica in my book is famous for going soft on sellers in order to keep them selling and making $$$ for GunsAmerica.

I've read several cases where GunsAmerica backed the seller in a dispute, not the buyer.
So, beware..

I was a "Gold" member. When it was time to renew, I couldn't contact them to stop billing me the monthly charge because the "buy it now" function was not very reliable so I wanted to discontinue the Gold membership. I finally had to change my credit card number to stop the unwarranted billing charges.

I do buy a few guns on GunsAmerica but I always do reverse telephone lookup numbers, etc., of the seller to try to find out what I can before making the purchase.

I haven't been burned badly yet but a few times the firearm was misrepresented. I considered it part of the risk of buying online. Most people I have dealt with were very honest but there's always some jerk everywhere.

thanks,
Bill

What a dickhead of an excuse. "We're so busy things get overlooked." What BS. I hate to say, but I've had better luck at the chain stores. If something goes wrong, you have recourse. There's always another manager to talk to.

This sounds as bad as my experience last year with Crossroads Trading Post LLC.

She send me a SxS shotgun with a broken hammer - but blamed me or my FFL for dry firing it and breaking it. Luckily I was able to stop payment before she got to the bank. Looking back the emails and calls were hilarious. I should post all that here as it's good reading.

I have also had a run in with this guy. He is a clown and gets defensive with even a polite question about one of his guns, so I would guess he is hiding alot in his listings. I would just steer clear of this tool!

I have had some good experiences on GunsAmerica and AuctionArms. I am careful with what I buy and if I can't get all the details I want, I pass. I would much rather buy here on the campfire when possible.
