Well it took over 29 months to cobble together but my full custom .223 is finally in the safe.

I picked up a barreled action from a member in March 2014 and stashed it in the safe. In May 2014, I ordered a Shrike stock from D'arcy Echols. It was finally delivered thirteen months later in June of 2015. Sent it off to Scott Weichel of Live Oak Accuracy to be fit, finished and bedded in December 2015. It was delivered last week.

The worst part of the whole thing is that I am overseas and it won't be shot by me for some time to come.

The stock was ordered as an Edge fill but weighs in at 28 ounces. I was a little disappointed with that number being an edge fill with a .25 pad but I am told that balance of the completed rifle is spectacular so I will not be complaining.

Build sheet:

Borden Alpine action - bolt handle swept back slightly by Kampfeld
Jewell trigger
Rock Creek 1:8 Rem Magnum contour at 21" chambered in 223 Match to kiss 75 AMAX at 2.485" COAL
SS PTG Oberndorf bottom metal
SS Bat action screws
Stainless mag box, modified for longer COAL rounds
McMillan Shrike with 14.5" LOP - grey with speckles
Leupold FX-3 6x42 LRD
Talley Lows

8lbs 4oz - as shown

That ought to be a sweetheart to shoot. Congratulations on getting it done. Here's hoping that you get to shoot it soon.

The only thing I, would change is the Talley LW, for S&K scope mounts.

Only the smith that finished it has shot it so far but I am sure my dad and brothers will take it out soon.

Thanks! I believe Jim uses Sako style extractors for the Alpine/Timberline actions.

Cool. Don't feel bad on not shooting.. I have a custom 284 barreled by Mickey so many years back I don't recall now. Have never even loaded a round or bedded it in its stock yet... its in case I get a mountain hunt as a light gun, I really should make time, but just have not....

We can keep Larry Root and all his idiotic blabber and user names on here, but we can't get Ralph back..... Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over....

I Believe there are some clearance issues with the Sako and a .372 bolt face and the firing pin hole I'm pretty sure the extractor cut protrudes into the bolt body too far , and was the reason I was curious about which extractor is being used!
