Question for them on here that might know:
I've got a '77 GMC 3/4 ton with a small block 350 and a 4 speed manual transmission. I've also got a '92 Chevy 1/2 ton with the 4.3 and 5 speed manual transmission. I still get 20 mpg on the Chevy (240,000 and counting) and use it as a fair weather commuter, but I know she'll die eventually. When she does, I was wondering if it were possible to bolt up that 5 speed to the old '77. The way I understand it, the 4.3 was basically a small block 350 they cut 2 cylinders off of. Given the common parts so ubiquitous that make GM trucks so damn cool, I was hoping to get OD in the '77 so it wasn't screaming when I hit highway speed.

Should be doable. However, I don't know what you'd have to do to convert it to hydraulic slave cylinder or if you can use your old set-up to run the clutch/pressure plate.. Should be easy to convert to all hydraulic or maybe leave it mechanical. If it's easier to just keep the mechanical linkage then, that's the way I'd go.
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

I was hoping to find out whether it'd bolt on before I tackled the hydraulic vs mechanical clutch lol. Still undecided on that. I'd imagine if it bolts up then easiest thing would be to leave as is.

Jason Probably will. Dad pulled a 5spd out of a early 90's Firebird and bolted it up to his late 60's small-block. Very easy swap. You might have an issue with drive-shaft length, if the 5spd is longer overall than your current 4.

.Nice thing about Chevy is they kept things the same....might have to change the drive shaft...

Can the V6 trans handle the torque of the 350?

Can the V6 trans handle the torque of the 350? I haven't looked up the numbers, but I'll bet the two motors are probably close in HP and torque.
