Texas newspapers are nothing if not Tex-centric. grin

If Texas was its own country - which, let's be honest, to many of us, it is - it would rank eighth in the 2016 Olympics medal count with 41 total medals.

That means the Lone Star State by itself has more medals than all of Canada (22). Countries like Australia (29), Italy (28) and Spain (17) don't want to get into any kind of medal-counting contest with Texas, either. Oh, and host country Brazil (19)? Thanks for all your medals.

The 26 gold medals from athletes with Texas ties would rank third, only behind the United States (46) and Great Britain (27).

With the likes of Simone Biles, Simone Manuel, Kerron Clement, DeAndre Jordan, Jimmy Butler, Brittney Griner and Sarah Robles all hailing from Houston, a lot of countries wouldn't want to deal with H-Town's medal count of 10 golds, two silvers and two bronzes.

The University of Texas had a nice medal haul as well with nine golds, a silver and two bronzes. Longhorns grabbed five gold medals in swimming and three more in track and field.

1. United States 46 gold, 37 silver, 38 bronze, 121 total
2. Great Britain 27 gold, 23 silver, 17 bronze, 67 total
3. TEXAS 26 gold, 6 silver, 9 bronze, 41 total
3. China 26 gold, 18, silver, 26 bronze, 70 total
5. Russia 19 gold, 18 silver, 19 bronze, 56 total
6. Germany 17 gold, 10 silver, 15 bronze, 42 total
7. Japan 12 gold, 8 silver, 21 bronze, 41 total
8. France 10 gold, 18 silver, 14 bronze, 42 total
9. South Korea 9 gold, 3 silver, 9 bronze, 21 total
10. Italy 8 gold, 12 silver, 8 bronze, 28 total

It's because Texas is full of the best runners, swimmers, and jumpers Mexico had to offer.

I am now running and hiding from the backlash this post will bring. grin

God bless Texas. Everyone one here has a horse and an oil well in their backyard. Well the Wifey has the horse and I take care of it. Sounds fair to me.
