Seems trout fishing trips my trigger more than any other fishing these days. If Im not using good old worms, Im usually chunking a spinner. Today there were no worms to be had and it was threatening rain so threw the poles and tackle in the truck and headed for the local trout stream with my daughter. They didnt seem to like any of my spinners, so I dug out a pack of "trout magnets". Ive heard much about these and for the $1.50 I though, ehh what the hell. Within the first few minutes of bumping a bronze and black one along the bottom, I had two landed. Then it started raining so we bailed. Heading back out tomorrow to try in a different spot. Anyone else using these? What colors are working for you?

Love using trout magnets , I usually start with white or pink. Unless the water is really clear then more natural colors. I don't fish PA much other than around Erie ,but the streams in Va and WVa are probably pretty similiar. Just a tip , lightest line possible seems to work best and little to no weight other than the jig head provides (1/64) . Another tip is keep the rod tip moving constantly during your retreive . Lots of helpful videos on youtube. Good luck and tight lines

I use them for sunfish under a pop'r. The pop'r attracts them and the tiny jig is in their face and to much to resist. I like the yellow and the green and black laminate. I'm not a real big fan of their floats. I have been meaning to try them on trout.

The floats work real well in certain situations . Like a trout stream with enough riffle going through , the float gives the jigs just enough action . Has to be about the same depth all the way through otherwise its snagging rocks or too high for the fish. Had several days in Wva with over 100 trout all on trout magnets.

Ive got some white also, will give them a shot along with some flurocarbon line I bought for the "sensitive" fish.

Waiting for my son to wake up, then were off for trout fishing and woodchuck hunting. Back to school next week, gotta have some more fun till then.

No luck today, water looked like chocolate milk due to the 1"+ rain. We did spot a nice fat chuck but dad blew the shot and ruined son's aspirations of a woodchuck rug for his room. We'll get them next time. I missed the same one last week (only miss out of 7 shot at), this is becoming a mission of mine.

The biggest stream trout that I ever caught in New England was a brown caught with a 1/32 ounce black jig from the pool under the dam on the Ammonoosuc River at Bath, NH.

You guys use a fluorocarbon leader?

I have used fluorocarbon leaders but here lately I just use 2-4lb test in a lo vis green. No problem with the fish seeing it. Btw the same company (Leland) that sells Trout Magnets sells a very good fishing line as well in 2,4 and 6lb .

Yeah I like the SOS line. It's the only 2 lb line you can find locally, besides stren, and I hate that $hit.

if you are using spinning tackle, stick you finger out on retreive so the line bumps your finger everytime it comes around, give the magnet a pulsing type swim, trout cant resist for some reason. I like 2# maxima. Have landed some pretty big fish with it, use a longer whippy rod too.

Yeah the finger on your line does work or just keep twitching the rod tip. I also like the longer ultralite rods . Usually fish a 8 or 9' rod and the Shimano Sahara 500 or 1000 reel. Spooled up with 2-4 lb SOS makes a good combo.

Spinning rods built on flyrod blanks are great for that sort of thing. A long moderate action rod will protect your line frof big fish way better than fast action rods. I have caught some good smallmouth on a 8' noodle rod While fishing tiny jigs for panfish. I am using 2 lb yozuri hybrid right now, I think I like the SOS a little better.
