My kid brother bought a Rock River 308 AR. In your opinion what is the cheapest most effective ammo for something like this? He will use the gun for hog hunting and home defense.

I load 150 sierra GameKings. I have the RR Varnint model. RR is going to shoot almost any thing well.

Handloading is out of the question for him. He wants something he can buy big quantities of ammo that is not FMJ and not steel cased.

Hornady American Gunner 155 BTHP. It appears to be set up to run perfectly in gas guns. I have tested it in a 16" Armalite with mid-length gas system. The precision is VERY good, the velocity was moderate but I just don't care. That bullet is very effective in meat. These come in a 50 round box. It seems like Hornady is targeting AR-10 shooters with this product.

That looks like a good deal, got 70 cents apiece in mine plus taking the time to load them

I bought one last Winter and have found regular Hornady 150gr. American Whitetail to be the most accurate of the ones I tried. I liked it so much, I called Hornady to find out what powder was in it and they told me that Power Pro MR 2000 was as close to the powder as I could buy over the counter.

I've been using a new PSA AR-10 in 308 this year with Federal Fusion MSR 150gr.
