Do you guys have a preference for reliability and accuracy, or just use the cheapest ammo you find?

Any harm using steel cased ammo? Guess you have Steel, Aluminum, and Brass in bulk ammo, berdan and boxer.

9mm-- Federal ball, aluminum case.
No harm using steel case, depending on the firearm.
Glock will run any thing

SG Ammo.comm out of Oklahoma has been as good as anyone I've used for inventory, price and fast shipping. Most of them seem pretty close on 9mm.

I just started shooting a 9mm this year, a Glock 19 and CZ 75 B. I've put about 1500 rounds through each with 115 gr FMJ so far. 2,000 Federal American Eagle and Speer Lawman, $105 for 500 and 1,000 of Russian steel case Brown Bear, $85 for $500.

The only problem was when I tried a lighter striker spring in the G19. I had one fail to fire in each of the first two magazines with Brown Bear. I put the original heavier spring back in and no trouble since.

Most of my shooting is at seven and ten yards which is probably too close to see any difference in accuracy. I don't.

So far they all shoot about the same.

On a whim I tried some Italian Perfecta 9mm from Walmart. $9.50 or so for a box of 50 brass case 115 grain FMJ. It's good stuff. I've been picking up 2 or 3 boxes when it's in stock. Used it in a Ruger SR9, an LC9, a Glock 43 and a friend's Sig. It works good or as good as I can do with any 9mm.

Friend has a stock G17. Just making sure there is nothing that's really crappy on the market. Yes, he does not reload and not sure I will for that round. Made enough 380 in my college days for a Walther PPK/S..........with a Lee Loader of all things. Lol.

Curious if anyone is using brass factory ammo and selling brass? Seem it's pretty cheap. So no need for worry about wear using non-brass rounds, i.e. the steel cased stuff. Good to know.

For the handloaders, do you guys best the accuracy of the better ammo i.e. Premium defense ammo? Seems many guns might not tell the difference, I don't know.

Lastly, seems many guns are fixed sights, does the industry have a standard weight they use for POI/POA? Guessing 115 or 124 if they do, as I figure the 147 is not so close to the lighter ones.

Guessing the better ammo will do around what, 2" at 25 yds in a quality gun?

The steel cased Winchester bulk ammo feed poorly in my Star M43 and occasionally even jam in my Glock 17. Those two never fail with brass cases.

Speaking for myself only - my reloads give me the accuracy of the best premium ammo, but at a much lower price, and can be plinkers or hot +P+ loads. IIRC I'm loading 9mm for around $5 per 50; not a big deal for a box or two a month but it adds up fast shooting a few thousand rounds per month. (That is with my own cast bullets and re-using or range pickup brass.)

I think most fixed sights (Glock in particular) are generally regulated for 115 to 125gr loads, but that can vary as much with the individual shooter as with the bullet weight.

2"/25 is a pretty reasonable expectation for decent handloads in a newer Glock, if the shooter is up to it. Most aren't, IME.

Not counting reloads, & I don't use aluminum or steel cases, Magtech prices, day in day, out form various sources is hard to beat.

Sometimes you find a deal on other stuff that is cheaper at any given time.

SGA almost always is the lowest prices I see; again you might find a special her or there.

No steel for me, either. Ammoseek usually feeds the monster. I look for deals on good brass case ammo for around $.20/rd with free shipping.

Thanks folks. Great Info. Will be trying out 124gr American Eagle FMJ for range work. Looking at the Fed HST 124 and 147 for SD. Looks like a simple KISS approach to stay w the same weight. Pros and Cons on all tests I've read. Things like bbl length determining any real gain if +P and the less penetration with more expansion, and then there's shot recovery time. Will look at these other recommendations as well. Had looked at Magtech and others. Sounds like many favor Brass cases so will stick to them. Thanks again folks for all the great info.

Good advice - stay away from the steel cased ammo.. It's just asking for trouble..
