Anyone interested in learning to sharpen or upping their game at it check these videos out....

The first one is on "burr based sharpening" and recommended for beginners....I'd guess most people use this method.

The second one is on "three step sharpening"....in which the idea is to create the edge without deliberately forcing a burr. This is pretty much what I do and recommend anyone give it a shot.

The young fella doing these videos is an obvious enthusiast and very detailed in his explanations. These videos are somewhat long but they tell just about everything I can imagine that you need to know in order to become a very decent sharpener....the only thing left is to get the feel of it on your own. I picked up probably three quarters of these tricks over years of trial and error and reading stuff on the net but what took me forever to learn is all here in about an hours worth of video that costs nothing. Gotta love the internet!

Although this is about freehand, some of the burr minimization/elimination tricks could transfer to those who use jigs. IMO, getting rid of burrs is the most important thing in the whole process and this guy explains/does it very well.

Anyway, hope this helps someone.

This guys teaches well without being long winded. He has a series of videos but several offer very good instruction on achieving a perfect edge.

This one is the one that got my attention. He's a very talented bladesmith also.

Here is the series of videos.

Thanks - I am reasonably confident with an Edge Pro, but on a custom that came with a convex edge, I failed soundly the first time I tried a convex. Will be interesting to try that approach.

Knivesshipfree.com also has a good video on sharpening convex blades using a mouse pad and sand paper....I don't know if it's the best but it works for me....
