They make gloves with something in one of the finger tips that will work on a touchscreen.

Buy the Garmin 64s without the topo map preloaded. Buy the topo chip and it installs under the batteries. The chip added style is much bigger relief and easier to read then the preloaded topo.

I use my 62stc and 64s for hunting each fall and geocaching every other day of the year.

Garmin (I've got old and new model 64s). Definitely buttons not touch screen.

they got 'em touchscreens that even work w gloves now

I'm waiting for the one with the Huggies dispenser built in.

Seriously though, I used to scoff at technology thinking it was moving people away from fair chase and sport but having a family now, I realize my survival has a higher purpose. Get a new Garmin w GLONASS and topo. Consider one that is capable of loading landowner info.

What Dustylongshot said. The GPS Map 64 (base model) is a good choice. You can add a microSD card for additional memory and then go to GPS file depot to download all of the free topo maps that you need. The unit uses AA batteries so you don't have to worry about recharging batteries while in the field. It has push button commands which aren't affected by rain, snow, gloves, and such. The external antenna adds some bulk to the unit but it also adds to the receiver sensitivity so that you will get great reception in steep canyons or heavy cover. The base model is about $100 cheaper than the model with the preloaded topo but the topo you get with that upgrade is 1:100K which is of limited value for actual field use (1:24K has much higher resolution). I picked up mine off of Amazon for about $215 so you aren't going to break the bank with the purchase.
