While we always used rank chicken necks around the docks menhaden is definitely the crab traps/pot bait of choice. We also use mullet in SC.

Did not know about the demise of menhaden. But it was hard to find this past summer. The casting nets were good to me. Especially, for mullet.

Tonight we had Leniwe Gołąbki with a black skillet of freash cornbread. Pretty darn good for a quick meal. For those of you that don't know your Polish (like me), thats lazy cabbage rolls.
Still have half a head of cabbage left so I may try Holishkes with sweet-sour sauce. A Ukrainian jewish recipe I believe.

Yes sir! Really looking forward to it.
Momma is 14 or 15 weeks along I think. First week of Feb due date.

Bun in the oven sounds appropriate for this forum. Lol.

Interesting cos down this way a PittsBurger seems to always have fried egg involved. Maybe the term "pitts" burger means what ever you want on it.

Been working out and careful about eating the last few weeks to get ready for Idaho but life has to have breaks. Late meetings (there's combined annual salaries worth north $1.8M in this room and it takes you an hour and a half on a friday afternoon to decide we need a strategy and to communicate it to the employees? Kill me now) and had to pick the chainsaw up from the shop so told SWMBO BBQ from http://mission-bbq.com/ is in order.

Brisket, ribs slaw and baked beans. Good stuff

Pugs, that's a good looking plate. Just got a new Mission BBQ here near me and I've haunted the place a couple times.

No egg David, this is the reason for the name and I've eat one at the original in Pittsburg

Primanti Brothers (Pittsburgh English: [pɚˈmæːni], Standard English: [pɹɪˈmænti] or [pɹɪˈmɑnti]) is a chain of sandwich shops in the eastern United States. Founded in 1933, the chain is known for its signature sandwiches of grilled meat, an Italian dressing-based coleslaw, tomato slices, and French fries between two pieces of Italian bread.[1]

I do too. In fact, I pretty much use slaw instead of lettuce now. And I do not use mayo in the slaw.

Gonna have to make one of those PittsBurgers!! Thanks Dan.

David, ditto. Are you using a vinegar based slaw dressing?

Vinegar and some sugar was pretty common in GA.

Yup...very common in SC as well.

I've also found some very creative salad dressings in stores like Whole foods that are great in different makeups of coleslaw. Tried one today that included a lemon, shallot, and cilantro, vinaigrette base. Added a little brown sugar and sweet onion. Good stuff!!

Off the shelf, the wine based strawberry vinaigrette from Briannas makes a great quick slaw.

My fav is my Mother's Texas hot pepper slaw, which is essentially sweet, sour and hot but no mayo. Great on BBQ sammiches!!

My base slaw is cabbage of course--both red and green, carrots, and I also add in lots of cilantro, spring onions (use kitchen shears) and a lime or 2. Jumped on the soft taco kick early summer and found this makeup was great on fish tacos. So now I use it on everything.

Cubed Pork!
Flank Steak!
Fresh grilled fish---especially mahi-mahi!
Baked chicken breast with a light Dukes mayo glaze!
Even grilled vege's!

All make great soft tacos with cole slaw and a giant tortilla.

Left overs are even better. Last week I baked 6 chicken breasts on Sunday and had tacos topped with a vinegar based cole slaw darn near every night. Talk about easy and filling! AND minimal bad stuff for you.

BTW Whole Foods also has a sun dried tomato based salad dressing that makes an amazing seafood cocktail sauce. Just substitute the WF dressing for ketchup. These are in the produce section and chilled. Well worth a try!

This is a wonderful thread. Thanks for starting Lynn!!

Happy cooking!!

David
