I hit three WalMarts today and all were out of the Ruger Americans. I intended it as a Christmas present since I am left-handed and wouldn't use it, but it was too good a deal not to try for.

Just left with a 243 a few minutes ago. Manager didnt know about it until I asked him to scan it. Still had 2 30-06s when I left. They also had 2 marlin 45-70 priced 589 on the shelf that scanned 299.

Sold out within a 70 mile radius of me.

I may not be smart but I can lift heavy objects

I have a shotgun so I have no need for a 30-06.....

So, if they are in stock, but not sale priced, when they scan it will the sale price show up, or what?

Bargain: Something you don't need at a price you can't resist.

Just got a non-resident VA hunting license for about the same money. That's going to just about double my deer hunting opportunities this year using the rifles I already have. I also laid in a bunch of Nosler blems in three calibers for an average of less than .20 apiece. An old man on a fixed income's gotta get the most bang for his bucks.

Glad to see the rest of you getting a deal though.

If anyone can find a 1895 45/70 and can buy it for $299, I will pay for the gun and the shipping to purchase it for me. I cannot find one around me anywhere. PM me with any details. I talked to one walmart counter guy who said he had a guy come in and buy their last two. They were the 4th and 5th he bought in the last 24 hours. No wonder I can't find one.

So one of our local WM's has both the '06 and .243 in stock. How do these things function and shoot? Not usually a fan of lightweight rifles, and these feel pretty light to me. I could probably get over most shortcomings at that price, except for accuracy issues I guess.

Our local WM is out of the $199 RARs, but they have Savage B-Mags for $154 if the 17 WSM is an itch you'd like to scratch.

I have 4 of them now. Other than a magazine issue with my .233 (which Ruger took care of quickly by sending me a new mag after a phone call), the 3 I have shot function and shoot good. I have a .223, 6.5 Creed, and 308. I can't comment on the 3006 I just picked up as I haven't shot it yet. I doubt if is is any different than my first 3.
At $199 they are a great bargain.

Out of them in my area, too. But I did get a 45-70 and a 22 mag., but they were all out of the 17 and the Ruger American.

Isn't that the truth!!! My 1st thought when I read this thread was 'now what can I do with it'.

I bought their stainless model in .308 Win. because I liked the smooth action with the short bolt uplift, also like the location and operation of the tang safety. It comes with two piece scope mounts, and to me has a nice overall balance.

The accuracy is good, maybe not a Styer, but is comparable to most rifles like M70 or Ruger M77.

This new design seems like they didn't cut quality in the barrel or action.

The short comings:

The trigger has the irritating little blade feeler thing like some of the Savages. Mine only adjusts down to 3 lbs pull. which is OK for me but more than advertised.

The stock width at the butt pad is extremely narrow, so I wouldn't want it in a big kicking caliber.

The clip magazine is made of plastic/composite.

I've had mine for about two years and havn't checked for after market stocks, but guess they may be slow to appear on market because of the unusual strip of V shaped bedding groves rather than a recoil lug.

If you take the trigger spring out (the spring that the adjustment screw compresses) and remove a few coils, then reinstall, it will adjust down much lower. And also it can still be adjusted higher by just tightening the screw more.
