Has anyone shot the new Savage A17 rimfire semi-auto?
Am curious about it and the new A17 ammo.

A buddy bought one and took it prairie dog shooting this past June. He shot the crap out of it, no malfunctions and accurate enough to pop 'dogs as far as he could with a 17. He shot the A17 ammo as well. He was happy with it.

I have one. A 17 HMR in semi auto=fun. Accurate way beyond it's price. Mine ran fine, with no malfunctions of any kind. Probably shot it around 75 rounds. Mine shot at 5/8" with the A17 ammo at 85 yds with a 5x scope. I'm sure it would do better with a higher magnification scope. Not sure there's anything so special about the ammo, but it did shoot it well.

DF,
A friend of mine bought one this summer and it one-holes A17 ammo at 50 yards. Dunno how fast it's going since he doesn't have a chronograph, but it's advertised at 2650 fps, 100 more than the "standard" 20-grain .17 HMR ammo.
In my bolt-action CZ the A17 ammo averages 2850-2900 fps and is very accurate, shooting to the same place at 100 yards as standard stuff. Used quite a bit of it this summer on prairie dogs, where it works REALLY well.

Curious why CCI bumped the .17 HMR up by 100 fps for the A17 ammo.

However the A17 seems to function just as well with std. .17 HMR ammo.
Undoubtedly those guys know what they're doing.
That's pretty neat, a cooperative effort between two "in house" companies, CCI and Savage.
There were some on line criticisms of the A17, clips falling out, trigger issues, etc., evidently early guns that were subsequently fixed. Reportedly, current productions is Kosher.

Not all A17's will function with standard ammo. Somebody got lucky!
