Saw a cool, new, little Rifle today at my local pawn/gun shop.
It was a Remington Model 7 in caliber 6m/m Remington!
It was an all stainless Model 7 with a pretty nice synthetic stock.
Had a "good" trigger pull and was lightweight and looked very snazzy, IMO.
The price was $695.00 and again it was a good looking little Rifle.
The only flaw I could find with the Rifle (and it was minor at that!) was a recoil pad that had a few slight over-laps with the stock - the pad was slightly larger than the stock in a couple of spots.
I've always liked the 6m/m Remington cartridge and this would make a nifty back country carry gun or an excellent beginners, youth or woman's sized Rifle.
I assume this is a newly cataloged item from Remington these days but to tell the truth my admiration and interest in Remington Rifles has been waning the last couple of years and I am not up on what they are offering these days.

Love me some model sevens, and that's a great chambering. Why isn't it in your safe?

Is that a currently cataloged configuration? I've never seen a factory specs/cataloged Remington Seven stainless in 6mm Rem.

As much as I like the 6mm Rem, I've had at least one since the Remington 660 were first cataloged for the 6mm Rem in 1968, the easy availability of 243 factory ammo makes it a lot more practical for most folks.

the SS model Seven in 6mm is a limited production thing for Remington's bicentennial.

A friend picked one up and with 75 vmaxs it's shooting bug holes.

Very neat gun in a nostalgic (for me anyway) cartridge

I have my original 1968 vintage 660 and one of the 1963 vintage 700s that was originally stamped "6MM REM MAG" with the "MAG" x'd out with over-stamps.

I also have a 700 parts gun with a late 725 244 barrel that was cut 1-10" ROT instead of the usual 1-12" ROT.

Buds has them. I looked hard at getting one but with a 243 in the house I just couldn't justify it.

THINK OF THE 6 MM REM AS A 243 AI. grin

MagMarc - +1. Would love a 6mm Remington just because of its longer neck BUT, like you, with a .243W already in residence, couldn't justify it. First wife loved the wood on her 700BDL in .243W so that's how the camel got its nose into the tent. Shame that Rem has really downplayed the caliber. It's a good one. Homesteader

Homesteader: I agree with you the 6m/m Remington is an excellent cartridge and why Remington dropped it from their line-up for so long still puzzles me.
ONE... of the Rifles I most regret ever selling was an older Remington 700 Varmint Special (the wood stock BDL looking style) in caliber 6m/m Remington - I had a Unertl 15 power ultra-Varmint scope on it and man'o fire would that thing shoot!
Remington does more and more things that befuddle me more and more each year it seems!
To tell the truth I look for them to go under in ten to fifteen years.
And that's a shame, as I have been a Remington type of guy (proponent) for more than 50 years now.
Their products are just to expensive anymore, for what you get.
I still buy lots of Remington Rifles (big game and Varmint!) but I buy them on the "used market" anymore.
This Model 7 at $695.00, I think, is only $100.00 to pricey in my mind.
Some of their heavy barreled big game and Varmint Rifles are $400.00 to $500.00 to high for my tastes anymore.

Dude270: That's a great bit of info on how well your friends Model 7 shoots!
Say what you will about Remington centerfire Rifles - in my experience over the last 50+ years they virtually always shoot quite well.

I already had two 6mm Rem.'s (Ruger No. 1B and Win. 70 Ftwt.) and a Win. 70 Ltwt. .243 Win. still snuck into the house. Course I am a certified loony so......

I don't need one at all, but I love the 6mm. I need to stay away from this site. Y'all got me wanting one bad.

Just saw ss Model Seven in 243 for $469. Actually kind of tempting to grab it for a beater but really need a lefty 243 more.

VarmintGuy - here's this 'ol codger's take on the RemLin problem. Newly minted 'wet behind the ears' MBA's run with a half baked idea to impress upper management...by the time the original idea tanks they've already changed jobs. Filter what you've seen happen in the industry with that in mind and it starts to make sense. Homesteader

Yup. I always admired the 6mm from afar, but the rifles dried up before I decided to try one. A couple of years ago, I found a nice Bofors Sako .243 for a decent price and went that route instead. Last year I let my sons each pick a rifle from my little pile and the Sako got picked. This year I started looking for a replacement, and with dies and brass for the .243 on hand and factory 6mms still not available, there was really only one choice. I don't know if that $695 price is typical, but I think the $520 I paid for my new SS Ruger is a better buy.

No doubt the 6mm case design is somewhat better and potential velocity a little better, but neither is reason enough for me to take on the rifle, brass, and ammo supply situation of the 6. The only thing that might get me is finding a really nice one for sale somewhere, and offhand I can only remember seeing one, a Ruger 1B, in years.

Homesteader: Come to think of it your thoughts fit right in to what Remington has been doing the last several years now.
You are most likely right on with your analysis!
Still its a shame - Big Green going bad on me.
Come on Remington get back to the days of a good value and a good supply of arms and ammunition, AND... don't leave us 222 Remington lovers high and dry!

VarmintGuy - "...Big Green going bad on me." My first two center-fires were Remington's. In the late 60's their rifles stood head and shoulders above their competition. Since then they've lost their way. Having an alphabet soup of initials behind your name, without common sense and practical experience for balance, causes strange decisions in all industries and professions. Homesteader
