I'm in the market for a new safe, I need something that won't jam!

Not trying to flame, but it's kind of like a "how long is a piece of string" type statement.

Won't jam? Guns jam, didn't know safes did.

How many guns?
Fireproof?
Dial or touch pad?
Budget?

A few variables will help. That said, the best one you can afford. Avoid the Dicks, Sports Authority type.

Best video on the matter IMHO:

Lastly, no matter how many firearms you currently intend to store..... Double that amount when you're buying. -TomT

Whatever, get one twice the size you think you might need.

I have a cannon 64 gun . It has failed to open twice and I'm tired of it , so it's gone. I need something with a heavy duty lock mechanism not cannons cheap sheet metal mechanism.

There's a lot of safes out there. I have several Liberty's, never a problem in 25 years. Whatever you choose, I would recommend you consider one with a Sargent and Greenleaf lock. I've been told by locksmiths that they are the best. Like 1minute said, buy bigger than you need.

I agree with Bobmar. Liberty & Ft. Knox are my preferred brands. I might be the minority, but I also prefer dials to keypads, even though the failure rates on keypads are minimal. Just old school, I guess.

Fort Knox +1
I have both the dial and keypad on two different safes. The dial is more temperamental but I don't worry about battery failure either. As stated above "buy bigger than you need".

Sportsman, then Liberty. Buy big, if safe is supposed to hold 48, it means 48 single shot 410's. you be lucky to get 25 bolt guns in it.

I've got one of those.

Pretty good safe. But, my wife can't open it if her life depended on it. Seriously. Called me cussing when I was on a project. The first of about a half dozen calls that day on the matter...

I was pissed.

Came home, walked to the safe, punched in the code, and snip, it opened just fine. smile

She was even madder after that... grin

I was a locksmith for years and you are right. S&G MP if you can find one.

What kind of lock? Stay away for digital and stick with a real safe lock.

American Security, I have two of them and never any problem. I would advise staying from the electronic locks.

So true. I moved a year ago ad left a Ft.Knox in the old house. I purchased 2 new safes (advertised to hold 48 long guns each) to accommodate 42 rifles.

Sturdy Safe....American made, unlike many others.

Can be bought with either an electronic or manual lock. Can also add as much steel to the doors and walls as you want.

If the problem is an electronic lock, change it t a S&G mechanical lock and save money.

I have never taken an electronic lock apart to see how hard it would be to switch. If anybody has and knows how I would like to know.

i like, and bought from Heritage.. mainly because of the solid 3/8" steel plate in the door. others claim a thicker door, but most are thin layers of steel over sheetrock or some other non-metal core

i'd also go with a standard dial, instead of the electronic model. seems to be much more durable

if a man speaks, and there isn't a woman around to hear him, is he still wrong?
