There is a fairly noticeable difference in numbers here locally and it sure seems to correlate with the hail streak.
The younger roosters all have fairly even tail feathers and you are probably right that last years birds have the (double) long ones.
What does FWP say, a 2-3 year old bird is an old one?
I went out for a walk earlier today. Jumped one rooster but he was up and out before I could get turned around.
A dog would be nice as it's pretty much a needle in the hay stack type of hunt down by the river.

I think the stat is 97% of the pheasant pop is under 3 years old. At least, that is what stick in my mind.
I probably hit more elk with a pickup than you have with a rifle. I have yet to see anyone claim Leupold has never had to fix an optic. I know I have sent a few back. 2 MK 6s, a VX-6, and 3 VX-111s.

Shooting that gun is a dream, same as an other O/U- the trick is to reload it in a fairly expedient manner if the dogs are birdy! LOL! I have had birds fly past me when the middle of loadng! Cat

How do you like it? I almost bought a French Brit about 10 years ago. Went with the American version instead.
I hear mixed reviews.
