When I go into a pawn shop, it is like a wino going into a liquor store.

I have the same model - .25-06 with octagon barrel. It is superbly accurate. The scope mounts had to be shimmed to get them tight, but after that step, it has been awesome.

I also have a Browning 1885 7mmRM made the same year, 1994, with the octagon barrel. I had to shim 2 piece Weaver bases, not only for height, but for the angle of the barrel taper slope under each base. This B-78 came with Redfield rings [that I would usually take off] but they have been lapped. I am going to measure how far off they are.

Nice!
Looks like you got a good deal too, especially with the rings and swivels included.

I paid ~ $1600 out the door for the 1885. I paid ~ $875 out the door for the B-78.
If the B-78 shoots near as well as the 1885, I will be happy. They both have 1994 octagon barrels, but the bore looks better in B-78.

Jerry, if that is the case, it was made in 74.

I have one of those in the same caliber. It has become the only rifle I use during deer season. It also is a superb long range coyote rig. You did well.

Sweet, Well Done! 25-06 is IMO underrated and a favorite.!
There is no accounting for taste.
Experience is a great thing as long as one survives it.
Generally, there ain't a lot that separates the two however, Barely making it is a whole lot more satisfying than barely not making it.

I found one just like it at a gun show in Texas a couple of months ago. I wanted it bad, but the seller wouldn't budge off of his price of $1200.
I'd say you did real well!
