The HK P7 is compact and very accurate. I carry mine in a Crossbreed IWB holster loaded with HST's. It's flat profile makes it easy to conceal/carry.

My 92FS was very accurate but my P7M8 gets my vote.

HK P7 in any of it's variants.
Albeit a bit rare, the Walther P88 is one exceptionally accurate pistol out of the box.

How accurate do you need for self defense? I shot this group after working up loads for my daughter's M&P 45 Compact. I believe it was 25 yards. When we were shooting together later, she told me she didn't think it was sighted in correctly, so I put 5 in an inch at 12 yards. She said she could be wrong though. I shoulda kept this gun and bought her another.

CZ-75's are my favorite and seems to be radar guided but, my Sig P-220 is the most accurate .45 I've ever had.

Self defense pistol & shooting from sandbags are 2 totally different things.
I look for what pistol shoots best for me standing on my own 2 feet.

I'm not big on grip safeties, but I had a XDM 45 with a 4.5" barrel that outshot any other auto I've ever owned.

You'd have a tough time beating a 6" K-frame in a PPC course.
And the 4" version isn't a real slouch either.
Whether that meets the definition of a self defense pistol is up to the individual I guess.
Travis Who the hell uses a revolver on a PPC course?

There are two inviolate rules of gunfighting:
1. Don't get in one
2. If Rule 1 is unavoidable, don't get shot

Jim, I'd say you need to break in that CW45, and get some trigger time, maybe tune your load Fine Shooting! Do you 45 guys seem to see better accuracy than 9s, in the same guns? What about 40s? It does seem 10mm shooters have good fortune, or any chance barrels are held to tighter tolerances? Or is it just "inherit?"

Not so fast Gitem, I looked at a Legion 229 in 9mm today and the follow up shot reset is like... damn...only thing is that the size of that pistol begs for the 40SW but that cartridge popularity is kind of low right now with the new 9mm loads.

There are tons of good 40 ammo available, and excellent SD loads as well Or buy the legion in 9mm I finally got a bit of trigger time on a 226 legion and it was pure bliss

I had very good accuracy with the SIG229, but sold it due to weight and DA/SA, they do seem to be more accurate than the Glocks. Which of the non 1911 pattern pistols are most accurate? You got it in one. SIGs are the best off the shelf handguns by far in my experience.

Most accurate off the shelf self defense pistol that is not a 1911? Never owned a Sig229 so can't comment on that other than to say that my BIL is ex-Navy Seal & that's his preference. Best I've personally seen is the Beretta 92......better than any of the Glocks or M&P's that I own. And there's a lot of competitive shooters using them in the accurazied mode too so, IMO, that carries some weight. MM
