Have any of you seen any studies on the effects of west nile disease on Canadian geese.
Our numbers are way down over the last three years, I don't know if its farming practices or if something else is effecting them.

Thanks for the heads up. Didn't know that WNV had an effect on geese. I'll watch and see if the population is down in my area of the flyway. WNV has been a problem here.

Have any of you seen any studies on the effects of west nile disease on Canadian geese. What little posted that I have seen on its effects on birds have always been crows, robins, and other songbirds. My wife thinks that is what happened to the quail around here, and I tend to agree. It all happened in the same time frame. No mention by the ones in charge, and it has been blamed on habit loss and farm chemicals, but the widespread range and types of habitat suggest different. miles

There has been a study on ruffed grouse in PA, and they do get it and it is fatal to most of them, just not all of them.

I've seen no affects here.
Last season we still had geese piling in here by the thousands.

How about quail and duck numbers? Our turkeys are fine but our grouse and geese are all but gone.

Maybe a change in the flyway? We used to have more snow geese but in the last couple of years, they have moved more to the west and all we see around here are Canadas
